A man was electrocuted on a railway line after running from police who tried to arrest him.
Dramatic video shows sparks flying from a nearby utility pole as police vehicles approach the tracks in Farnworth, Bolton.
Greater Manchester Police said the man, aged in his 20s, was in a ‘serious but stable condition’ in hospital.
Witnesses claimed he climbed a bridge off limits to the public, before coming into contract with electric cables or wiring and falling onto the tracks, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Police said officers were initially called to reports of a domestic assault in the area and deployed a Taser to try and detain the man.
They then gave chase after he ran off towards the station, where paramedics and firefighters were also called following the incident, which has been referred to the police watchdog.
A spokesman for the force said: ‘Police were called shortly after 7.10pm yesterday to a report of a domestic assault at a property on Fern Street in Farnworth, Bolton.
‘Officers attended the scene and attempted to arrest a man in his 20s.
‘After the situation escalated, a Taser was deployed to maintain the safety of all involved.
‘The Taser was removed and man subsequently made off on foot into Farnworth train station where he sustained serious injuries while on the railway line.
‘He remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
‘The incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch and the Independent Office for Police Conduct in line with standard procedure.’
