Neighbours today said they heard a mother shouting ‘he can’t breathe’ in the street before the body of a young boy was found inside a house in Oldham.    

Officers were called by the ambulance service at around 6.20pm yesterday to an incident at a property on Elm Road in the Limeside area, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement.

Police said a child was discovered and pronounced dead. An investigation into the death is now underway, they added.

No further details about the child were available.
One neighbour told The Sun Online: ‘The boy’s mum came out into the street and shouted “He can’t breathe”.
‘A woman, who lives a few doors away heard what was going on and went into the house.’
They added that when the woman came in, the boy was slumped over on the sofa and performed CPR but the young boy ‘couldn’t be saved’.
This morning several heartfelt floral tributes had been placed at the scene outside a house.
One bunch of flowers came with a note which said: ‘It’s a cruel world – RIP Little One.’
A small teddy was also left on the road. Police tape remained in place outside a house with one police car stationed.
Last night forensic officers were at the scene as an investigation was launched. 
Detective Superintendent Chris Packer said: ‘Our thoughts are with the child’s loved ones at this heart-breaking time.

‘Specialist officers will offer them support.

‘Our investigation is in the early stages and we’d ask anyone with information to contact us or Crimestoppers immediately.

Police said ‘a child was sadly pronounced dead at the scene’ and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the death

‘Due to previous police contact, this incident has been referred to our Professional Standards Branch and will be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

‘This sad news is bound to cause distress in the community but I would like to offer reassurance that we are doing everything we can to establish the circumstances.’
