Man, 29, charged with stabbing murder of woman, 40, in East Ham, London

‘Knifeman’, 29, accused of murdering mother-of-two, 40, in the street and trying to kill second woman a day later will stand trial at Old Bailey

  • Shadika Patel, 40, was stabbed repeatedly in the street in East Ham on March 19 
  • James Sinclair charged with her murder and attempted murder of other woman
  • He is due to appear at the Old Bailey to enter a plea on May 14  

An alleged knifeman accused of murdering a mother-of-two and trying to kill a second woman just a day later will stand trial at the Old Bailey this autumn.

Shadika Patel, 40, was stabbed repeatedly in the street shortly after 12.45am in Altmore Avenue, East Ham, east London, on March 19.

James Sinclair, 29, is charged with her murder and with attempted murder in relation to a second woman, Beverly Barzey, on March 20.

Ms Patel is understood to have been out shopping when she was followed and attacked.

Sinclair, of Tower Hamlets, is charged with murder and attempted murder.

He is due to next appear at the Old Bailey to enter a plea on May 14.

A provisional trial date has been fixed for August 31.
