Fitness enthusiast Nathan McCallum has shared the difference 10 years has made to his god-like physique in incredible photos, stating that he didn’t join a gym until he was 25.

Now 33, the owner of online coaching and nutrition website Milestone Strength looks nothing like his former self working at fashion stores Surf Dive and Ski and General Pants – but the same determination and drive to succeed is there.

‘I’ve always been active. I played soccer at a high level towards the end of school but didn’t join a gym until my mid-twenties,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.

While he was certainly athletic in his younger years Mr McCallum wouldn’t describe himself as muscular, and originally employed the personal training experience of his childhood best friend to ‘get a six-pack and bigger muscles’.

‘I had the best learning experience with him and he’s now my business partner,’ he said.

While originally Instagram was a platform for Mr McCallum to share his top tier fashion advice – he worked in visual merchandising in the fashion industry – his content gradually transitioned into fitness content before that side completely dominated.

Now, with 845,000 followers, he’s a force to be reckoned with and regularly finds himself described as an ‘inspiration’ for other young men and women looking to overhaul their bodies.

‘I’m currently in a “cutting” phase so I’ll do 75 minute sessions with a bit of running but almost exclusively lifting weights,’ he said.

‘The bodybuilding aspects of training I really enjoy, it’s not something that gets boring… and if people find that it is and they’re not getting results it’s because they don’t have the right structured program.’

His website helps clients focus on their nutrition and training from a science-backed perspective, taking the guess work out of working out.

‘It’s the best feeling to see how many people come in and say “I’ve lost this much weight,”‘ he said.

Despite Mr McCallum’s appearance it’s incredibly hard to ‘get the bulky look’ from lifting weights alone and it actually works to slim down the body because you’re burning more calories.

‘One of the other misconceptions is that if you eat the exact same as someone else you’ll look like them,’ he said.

Sadly, it’s not that simple. At 5’8 and 81 kilos Mr McCallum will eat 3,200 calories while ‘cutting’ – which ‘cuts’ body fat while maintaining muscle mass – and 4,500 when he’s not.

On any typical ‘arm’ day he will do three exercises aimed at targeting the biceps, like overhand curls, pressed hammer curls and single arm preacher curls, and three for the triceps like an overhead rope extension, v-bar push down and French press.

To build ‘thicker thighs and a better booty’ he’ll opt for barbell Cossack squat, good mornings, pause back squat, back squat, leg press and Bulgarian split squats.

He uses the WHOOP 4.0 to track his recovery, sleep and training with the brand’s coordinated garments helping to collect data on his weight lifting sessions.

‘Sleep used to be my last priority but now it’s first and foremost,’ Mr McCallum said.

‘People don’t realise how important sleep is for fat loss and water consumption is the same.’
