Katya Jones suffered a ‘furious backstage meltdown’ over the low marks handed to her and her celebrity partner Adam Peaty on Sunday’s Strictly Come Dancing, according to reports.

A source told The Sun that ’emotions spilled over’ and Katya, 32, ‘was absolutely furious during filming not just because the dance hadn’t gone as well as they hoped but by the low marks they received’.

It comes after 26-year-old Olympic swimmer Adam’s mother hit out at Strictly, claiming the show is a ‘total fix’ and she doesn’t buy the public vote.

Meltdown: Katya Jones suffered a ‘furious backstage meltdown’ over the low marks handed to her and her celebrity partner Adam Peaty on Sunday’s Strictly, according to reports

Emotions: A source said Katya, 32, ‘was absolutely furious during filming not just because the dance with Adam, 26, hadn’t gone as well as they hoped but by the low marks they received’

A source told the paper: ‘Both Katya and Adam were in tears after a week in which they’d thrown their all into getting the routine right.

‘And though it hadn’t gone perfectly, both of them were shocked at being at the bottom of the scoreboard and finding themselves in the dance-off after the public vote. So getting shown the door on Sunday was utterly devastating.’

They added that Katya ‘was emotional after their performance on Saturday’ and that ’emotions spilled over’.

MailOnline has reached out to representatives for Katya, Adam and Strictly for comment.

The source added: ‘Both Katya and Adam were in tears after a week in which they’d thrown their all into getting the routine right’

Devastated: Katya and Adam were ‘utterly devastated about being shown the door on Sunday’ (pictured together leaving Monday’s It Takes Two in London)

Kind words: When asked by host Rylan Clark-Neal on the judges’ scores for their Jive, Adam said: ‘The judges have a role and I think they did that very fairly’

He added: ‘I’ve got nothing against that and as a competitor, you’ve got to respect that and I have respect for that’

Dapper: Adam cut a dapper figure as he hugged Katya – who wowed in a black dress – farewell after Monday’s It Takes Two

On Monday’s It Takes Two, Adam revealed his departure came at the right time as he was battling pain from injuries.

He said: ‘I can say this now, normally I’d keep this under wraps but my ankles were going, my calf was going.

‘I was trying to do as many runs as I can but the jive is one of those dances that requires 150%.

‘On the Thursday I was like ”Katya, I can’t do any more.” I am an Olympic athlete and I can push through things that most people can’t push through but my Achilles is going to go if I keep going.’

However Adam made it to his last show despite the pain and he battled in the dance-off against Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin.

Following a dance off, it sadly was the end of Adam and Katya’s Strictly journey as they became the sixth couple to be eliminated from the competition.

When asked by host Rylan Clark-Neal on the Judges’ scores for their Jive, Adam said: ‘The Judges have a role and I think they did that very fairly. I’ve got nothing against that and as a competitor, you’ve got to respect that and I have respect for that.

‘But it is what it is, isn’t it? I gave absolutely everything to Katya, I gave absolutely everything to myself but hopefully, we gave a good laugh to everyone at home.’

When asked about her partnership with Adam, Katya said: ‘We’ve been so privileged to have our Olympic hero come back from the Olympics and throw himself completely out his comfort zone.

Elimination: Following a dance off, it sadly was the end of Adam and Katya’s Strictly journey as they became the sixth couple to be eliminated from the competition

‘I’ve just loved every single day. I’m sure everyone would be very grateful for those tight trousers [in the Samba]! You rose to the challenge and inspired everyone to believe that you can do anything if you apply yourself. Thank you for everything – I’m still not ready to go!’

It comes after Adam’s mother hit out at Strictly Come Dancing, claiming the show is a ‘total fix’ and she doesn’t buy the public vote.

Caroline Peaty took to Twitter and made the comments after her son and his professional dance partner Katya were eliminated.

Adam also took to social media and hit out at ‘the people who tried to bring us down’ while he was on the show and told them to ‘do better’.

After their elimination, Caroline tweeted: ‘Such an amazing partnership and Katya you have taught my baby boy to dance, thank you. Total fix and I’m not buying the public vote. ‘

Reaction: One fan replied to Caroline to say that ‘someone had to go’ and she was doing Adam a ‘disservice’ by hitting out at the show

She was also unhappy earlier to see Adam land in the bottom two, writing: ‘What a total farce, neither Tilly or @Adam_peaty deserve to be in the dance off!’

One fan replied to Caroline to say that ‘someone had to go’ and she was doing Adam a ‘disservice’ by hitting out at the show.

They wrote: ‘This isn’t the Olympics, it’s an entertainment show where people vote based on what they like. Someone had to go.

‘Adam’s been fantastic and achieved so much to get this far. You’re doing him a great disservice by calling it a farce and knocking the remaining contestants.’

Sweet: Adam thanked the Strictly team for his time on the series as he bid the show farewell

Caroline replied: ‘Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I have watched this show for the first time and I have seen with my own eyes that the judging is not consistent or fair, not just with Adam either! And just so you know I am a kind person.’

A representative for Strictly Come Dancing declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.

Adam previously gave a strong message to those who speculated on his ‘near kiss’ with Katya in October.

Fans were sent wild as they were convinced that the pair ‘nearly kissed’ at the end of their racy Argentine Tango.

He tweeted: ‘To everyone who wants to see what they want, your comments have real life consequences. I will not be overcome or lowered by your gossip. Protect your energy.’

Adam performed the sexy routine to Tango in the Night by Fleetwood Mac alongside pro dancer Katya.

As the dance came to an end, Adam dipped Katya back and leaned in with his lips close to hers, but the sportsman appeared to lean in closer once again as they stood up before pulling away, leaving viewers believing he initially intended to kiss his partner.

Adam’s girlfriend Eirianedd Munro shared a video on TikTok as she reacted to the dance with a clip of herself pretending to cry alongside the caption: ‘Watching your boyfriend almost kiss another woman on live TV’.

She then threw her head back in mock anguish and added a second caption that read: ‘Finding out 10 million people also watched it live’.

The remaining couples will take to the dancefloor next when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 13th November at 6:40pm, with the results show on Sunday 14th November at 7:20pm on BBC One.
