Forensic officers have removed two foot-long zombie knives from a blood-soaked scene of carnage where a teenage boy was set upon by a mob and repeatedly stabbed in another night of gang violence in Birmingham.
The victim, 17, is in hospital with serious injuries after being knifed by a gang of six youths in the Kings Heath area, a suburb south of the city, at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.
Detectives believe there was ‘disorder’ outside a row of shops before the teenager was stabbed in a targeted attack.
Two boys, 14 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding and remain in police custody.
Forensic teams have been working at several areas of interest close to the scene overnight, with horrifying pictures showing a large machete or zombie type knife and bloodied clothing being recovered by officers.
The teenager, believed to be local, is understood to have been attacked in Meadfoot Avenue – close to a row of convenience shops and takeaway restaurants.
Officers were pictured recovering a knife from close to a Domino’s takeaway, while a second large blade was found just metres from a family home in nearby Camford Grove.
It comes as knife crime in the West Midlands has more than doubled since 2012, according to West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) David Jamieson.
Year-on-year figures dropped 13 per cent over lockdown, but violent crime is on the rise again following the easing of lockdown restrictions earlier this year.

Deputy Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine acknowledged the need to tackle the issue of ‘tragic deaths of young people involving knives’ in Birmingham earlier this year.
Her comments came amid West Midlands Police data showing a six-fold increase in gang-related knife crime between 2015 and 2019.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: ‘We’ve launched an investigation after a teenager was stabbed in Kings Heath, Birmingham last night.
‘We understand there was a disorder outside the shops before he was attacked by a group of six people.
‘Officers sent to search the area found a knife nearby. It’s been recovered and will be forensically examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
‘We believe the attack was targeted and two boys, aged 14 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding. They are currently in police custody, where they will be interviewed about the attack by the investigation team.
‘Officers are in the area today. They’re conducting house to house enquiries, looking at CCTV and speaking to local people.
‘Our priority is to find out what happened, and who is involved. If you have any information that can help, please let us know.’

Directly behind where the stabbing took place is Alcester Convenience Store, which has been run by Newnes Croos for seven years.
He said: ‘Police and Ambulances arrived at around 8pm – there were about six police cars and a couple of ambulances.
‘Most shops along the row shut at 5pm, but the shops that stay open were told to close immediately when the police arrived.
‘It was very frightening and shocking.
‘I normally open my shop for 6am in the morning, at this time there were only a couple of police officers here. They still said I couldn’t open my shop. They we’re still cleaning up.
‘I couldn’t open my shop until 11.30am – they were finishing up I suppose. Every other shop could open at their normal time, but because it was outside my shop, I suppose I had to shut longer.’
One resident, who did not want to be named, said today: ‘I heard shouting and looked outside and saw a large group run off down the road.
‘I could see a young lad laying on the ground.
‘Not long after ambulance and police were everywhere.’
It follows a spate of gang-related incidents in the city following lockdown restrictions being eased earlier this year.
Video footage showed the moment a gang of machete-wielding thugs chased a man along a residential street in broad daylight to the shock of homeowners and passing motorists.
The short clip begins with a lone knifeman dressed in blue swinging his weapon at approaching attackers before deciding to flee for his own safety.
The incident took place in the Alum Rock area of the city in September.
In the same month, more disturbing footage caught a gang attacking a man with machetes and hammers in a busy road.
Dashcam footage shows two men wildly swinging their weapons at a third man.
As he tried to flee from the attackers, the man runs into the middle of the road and into the path of a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

Dashcam footage shared on Twitter shows two men wildly swinging their weapons at a third man.
He bounced off the bonnet onto the road and desperately tried to escape his assailants as they continue to strike at him.
Motorists were forced to stop on the junction as the daylight attack took place.
Terrifying CCTV footage also showed the moment a gunman opened fire on a gang rival’s house leaving neighbours diving for covers in a drive by shooting in another residential street.
Footage captured two loud shotgun blasts and smoke pouring out of a property that had been attacked with baseball bats just an hour before.
In the space of 20 seconds a car pulls up, three masked thugs armed with baseball bats get out and proceed to smash the front windows of the property, before returning to the vehicle and speeding away.
West Midlands Police said knife crime had dropped by 13 per cent between April 2020 and March 2021.
However, the the decrease came among an increasing number of young people losing their lives to knife crime.
Deputy Chief Constable Jardine said earlier this year: ‘The drop in recorded knife crime is welcomed but this continues to be challenging for us as a force at a time where we have had tragic deaths of young people recently involving knives.’
Violent crime is rising across the area once again since lockdown restrictions ended, though.
Hundreds of officers are returning to the beat across West Midlands as part of an effort to tackle increasing violent crime, according to BirminghamLive.
Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster says he aims to put 450 more officers into neighbourhood policing over the next four years as part of a ‘core mission’ to ‘rebuild community policing’.
The force is understood to have around 1,000 fewer officers than in 2010.

Over the following 11 years, knife crime has risen faster in the West Midlands than anywhere else in the country.
Police figures have also shown a rise in the number of gang-related knife crime incidents year-on-year.
A ‘gang special interest marker’ is used by police for incidents ‘involving gang nominal or gang criminality’.
In 2015, West Midlands Police recorded five knife crime incidents with a gang-related special interest marker.
That figure, though, jumped more than six-fold to 32 across 2019.
West Midlands PCC Mr Jamieson oversaw the addition of three further knife surrender bins to the area in March – taking the total number to 20.
He said: ‘These bins prove most effective when the community wants them and the message I have been receiving loud and clear is that more are needed.
‘Knives can ruin the lives of individuals, families and entire communities. If you have a knife or any weapon, or know somebody who does, I strongly recommend you dispose of it in one of these bins.’
Sergeant Marc Paxton from West Midlands Police added: ‘Tackling knife crime and weapons related violence is a priority for West Midlands Police.
‘We have been working with the local community and partner agencies to educate and raise awareness around weapon offences and having these new knife bins will enable people to come forward and dispose of dangerous weapons in a safe manner.’
Birmingham, Britain’s second largest city, has a population of 1,140,500,
The Kings Heath suburb, around five miles directly south of the city, is described as an ‘up and coming’ area.
With an average property price of £258,294 over the last year, Kings Heath has two parks, a thriving high street, bespoke village square and a wealth of eateries.
Around 15 minutes into Birmingham city centre by bus, the suburb is becomingly increasingly popular and becoming one of the most desired locations to live close to the city.
West Midlands Police has been contacted for a statement on the stabbing.
