A mother and her older female lover accused of murdering her 16-month old daughter choked her and called her a ‘little c***’, a court was told today.

Frankie Smith, 20, and Savannah Brockhill, 28, who both deny killing little Star Hobson, were said to have done wrestling moves on her.

Bradford Crown Court heard they made her face the wall if she misbehaved – a punishment said to have horrified relatives.

Smith’s half-sister Alicia Szepler sobbed giving evidence as she told how the couple would ‘choke slam’ the little girl, the Telegraph and Argus reported.

She added Smith ‘called Star names that shouldn’t be said to a child’ before her death on September 22, 2020.

The half-sibling said: ‘Star would do a do a fake laugh and Smith would say, ‘Shut up you little c*** laughing like that’.’

Smith’s own mother Yvonne Spendley also gave evidence in the harrowing case.

She said on one occasion in a Wetherspoons she ‘felt sick’ when Star was placed facing a wall by Brockhill when she refused to eat her food.

Shocking footage recorded by the couple leading up to Star’s death at her home in Keighley, West Yorks, has already been shown to jurors.

In one clip Star is badly bruised with a swollen cheek and marks to her forehead.

They also videoed her crying with a broken shin trying to climb some stairs forced by the pair.

Both women deny any wrongdoing and murdering the little girl in an attack last year

Evidence has also been heard that the duo made a number of Google searches on their computer before Star died.

They included ‘How long can your body last without sleep?’, ‘how long can you sit in the cold?’ and ‘what takes bruising and swelling down?’.

The trial has already heard how Brockhill and Smith were constantly rowing and falling out.

In texts Brockhill said to her partner: ‘I can’t be bothered with you and the tramps of a family you have.

‘My family always said stop mixing with a lower class I should have listened.

‘Get gone you little vermin, you bad omen. Your family was right about you, you need Lynfield Mount.’

She also called Star a ‘very nasty and naughty child’ and ‘a brat who thinks nothing of you’.

A 15 minute 999 call was played in court of Brockhill and Smith on the phone while Star lay dying in the flat.

Brockhill said she heard ‘a bang’ and found Star on the floor ‘crying, floppy and being sick’ and struggling to breathe.

The court has been told the couple are accused of tearing a vein carrying blood back to the heart from the legs as well as tearing other organs.

Smith and Brockhill deny charges of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

The trial continues.
