Tributes have been paid on social media to the three men who died after a horror car crash along the M8 in Scotland.
David Paton, 27, Manveer Benning, 27, and Mark Downie, 31, died at the scene as emergency services raced to the M8 westbound, west of Glasgow, at around 5am on Sunday.
Five others, who are yet to be named, were also taken to hospital for treatment with serious but non-life threatening injuries following the crash which saw a blue Audi Q7 come off the westbound road near to junction 31.
Police Scotland have since confirmed a 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being questioned on suspicion of traffic offences.
Mark Downie, 31, was named locally as one of the three men who died in the M8 crash on Sunday
Manveer Benning, 27, also died in the crash, which took place west of Glasgow, at around 5am on Sunday

Last night, locals in Greenock as well as further afield described being ‘rocked’ by the tragedy as tributes poured in online for the three men.
One said: ‘Heart is broken thinking of all the family’s.’
Another said: ‘RIP boys and deepest condolences to the families. This has rocked Greenock and the wider community.’
A third wrote: ‘Heart breaks for all of your family and friends. Beautiful boys. RIP.’
While another added: ‘Thoughts go out to all the friends and families involved.’
Meanwhile another person wrote: ‘My condolences to all who lost a loved one.’
Yesterday the westbound carriageway of the M8 remained closed for several hours while an investigation by police in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde took place.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision remain ongoing and officers are still urging anyone with information to get in touch. (Stock image)
Inspector Darren Cook, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: ‘Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of those who have lost their lives as a result of this crash.
‘Our enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are seeking assistance from the public to help with our investigation.
‘Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, we believe there may be other road users that can help with our enquiry.
‘I would ask if you were driving in the area around the time of the incident or have possible dashcam footage that you come forward and speak to officers.’
