Prince Harry has said the Queen and Prince Philip were ‘the most adorable couple’ as he buried the hatchet to join his family in BBC documentary remembering the Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, which is set to air on Wednesday 22 September at 9pm on BBC One, will feature interviews from all of the monarch, 95, and Philip’s children – the Prince of Wales, 72, the Princess Royal, 71, the Duke of York, 61, and the Earl of Wessex, 57.

The Duke’s adult grandchildren, the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, will also provide their personal memories of the royal during the film.

Interviews were filmed before and after Prince Philip’s death in April, and were conducted separately, with Prince Harry’s tribute filmed in the US where he lives having stepped back from royal duty.

Prince Harry, taking part in his first ‘family project’ since acrimoniously quitting royal duties and moving to the US, says poignantly: ‘More than anything I miss his sense of humour. But I miss him more for my grandmother because I know how incredibly strong she was with him there. I also know she will be ok without him. ‘

He adds: ‘The two of them together were just the most adorable couple. To me knowing the cheekiness of him and knowing that behind what the world sees you have two individuals who were very much in love and both, from a very young age, have dedicated their life to service… that is an incredible bond between two people.’

In a new tribute programme, William reveals how the Duke of Edinburgh would get his grandchildren to hold a tube of mustard in their hands and then take the lid off when they were BBQ-ing at Balmoral.

William laughingly recalls: ‘He would squish your hands together to fire the mustard up into the ceiling.

‘He used to get into a lot of trouble with my grandmother for covering most of the places where we had lunch with mustard on the ceiling.’

His cousin, Peter Phillips, adds that the marks are still there.

The programme, to be aired on BBC One tomorrow, features all of Prince Philip’s children and adult grandchildren reminiscing about him.

Interviews began in early 2021 to celebrate Philip’s 100th birthday in June, but the programme has since become a moving tribute to the Queen’s husband after he slipped away peacefully on April 9, two months before his big day.

All of those interviewed admit that Philip was a man of his generation and upbringing – and didn’t suffer fools gladly.

Prince Charles describes how his father would watching him play football as a child and shout from the sidelines: ‘Stop scratching your backside and do something!’

The BBC said Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers would feature ‘poignant recollections, plenty of humour and numerous fresh insights into the character and legacy of this royal pioneer’

But all agree that he was a man like no other and one that has left a huge void in their lives.

William adds: ‘He’s always been the heart of the family and he’s always been a huge presence behind everything we have done, really.

‘It was very much a man world’s back then, so for a man to give up his career to support a woman, albeit the Queen, was still quite a big step.’

It is not the first time the royals have opened up about the Duke since his death in April, with several members of The Firm revealing personal memories on what would have been his 100th birthday this summer.

Prince Philip died of ‘old age’, his death certificate revealed. The Duke of Edinburgh died ‘peacefully’ aged 99 on April 9, Buckingham Palace announced at the time.

Princess Eugenie said she was ‘thinking of her Grandpa’ as she led the Royal Family in paying tributes to Prince Philip on 10 June.
