Jessica Chastain and Penélope Cruz look typically stylish for day four of Venice Film Festival

Jessica Chastain led the star-studded arrivals alongside a glamorous Penélope Cruz and Anya Taylor-Joy for day four of the Venice International Film Festival on Saturday.

The American actress, 47, who went on to attend the photo call of her film Scenes From A Marriage, looked stylish in a chic white lace blazer and coordinating skirt, while Penélope cut an elegant figure in Chanel. 

Joining the duo was The Queen’s Gambit star Anya, 25, who looked lovely in a floaty floral gown. The 2021 Venice Film Festival is taking place between the 1st and 11th of September, and is considered one of the world’s oldest awards ceremonies and one of the ‘Big Five’ events.

Jessica showed off her a leggy figure in the striking two-piece, which she teamed with matching white pointy-toe heels. The actress appeared in her element as she posed up a storm on the jetty. 

The Molly’s Game actress teamed her all-white look with a structured box bag and added an extra touch of glamour in the form of oversized tinted vintage sunglasses.

Jessica swept her chestnut tresses into a sleek ponytail, also drawing attention to jewel earrings which she complemented with statement rings on her fingers.

Her makeup was flawless, consisting of a porcelain complexion, a touch of blush on her defined cheekbones and a slick of deep red matte lipstick.  

Penélope, meanwhile, turned heads in a white crochet Chanel frock with black trim, teamed with black strappy open-toe heels.

The Everybody Knows actress added a matching wicker shoulder bag by the fashion house, statement pearl cuffs and stylish dark sunglasses, which she happily posed with. 

Her brunette tresses were styled out, in a middle parting, and her makeup was elegant for the occasion.   Penélope’s makeup consisted of defined brows, a subtle smoky eye and a matte nude lipstick.

Anya, 25, made her presence felt as she arrived alongside fellow actor Matt Smith, 38.

The actress donned a pink paisley-inspired maxi dress with black spaghetti straps, and waved for the cameras alongside a dapper Matt, who wore a pinstripe blue shirt and coordinating navy suit ensemble.

Her long blonde tresses were styled out and in retro waves, and her makeup was pared back and radiant.  

Anya appeared in great spirits as she arrived at the jetty, waving to her adoring fans. She also mingled with guests, clearly happy to be at the renowned film festival. 

The Peaky Blinders star is making waves in Hollywood, having received accolades including a Critics’ Choice Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She has also received nominations for a British Academy Film Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.  

Jessica appeared in great spirits as she posed for photos with Guatemalan-American actor Oscar Isaac, 42, who she co-stars with in Scenes From A Marriage.

Oscar donned a white T-shirt with a red and white patterned button-up, left undone, teamed with black trousers and dress shoes.      

Jessica also waved to the cameras, and made time to sign autographs and pose for selfies with her adoring fans. 

The Help star was later seen walking the red carpet, once again smiling and waving for the cameras. 

She shared a warm embrace with Oscar, with the co-stars seen laughing at times.

Also making fashionable arrivals were Italian actress Serena Rossi and Anna Cleveland, the daughter of famed model Pat Cleveland.

TV producer Pascal Vicedomini and Romanian actress Mădălina Diana Ghenea also made their presence felt as they happily posed for photos.  

Jessica later went on to attend the photo call of her film Scenes From A Marriage. 

The film examines marriage and divorce ‘through the lens of a contemporary American couple’, played by Oscar and Jessica.  

Elsewhere at the festival, two Afgan filmmakers, Sahraa Karimi and Sahra Mani, are to discuss the Taliban’s takeover of the country, with ‘particular attention to the situation of filmmakers and artists,’ in a panel taking place on Saturday. 

This year’s jury is headed by Parasite frontman Bong Joon Ho, who said he is ‘honoured to be woven into its beautiful cinematic tradition. 

‘As president of the jury — and more importantly as a perpetual cinephile — I’m ready to admire and applaud all the great films selected by the festival. I’m filled with genuine hope and excitement.’

The jury is also comprised of director Saverio Costanzo, actress Virginie Efira, star Cynthia Erivo, actress Sarah Gadon, documentarian Alexander Nanau, and director Chloé Zhao.  

This year’s festival has also seen the grand return of its star-studded red carpet premieres, after last year’s event was drastically scaled back due to the Covid pandemic.

Last year’s occasion saw a significantly smaller number of guests in attendance, will all red carpet arrivals required to adhere to social distancing, with temperature checks and mask wearing mandatory at the event.

Despite its return, this year’s festival is still adhering to strict Covid guidelines, following a rise in cases in Italy.

Public access to the red carpet is banned, and more than 10 testing stations have been set up.

All attendees must show proof of a negative test or vaccination to enter a screen, and masks are required indoors.
