A woman had shared a ‘ridiculous’ customer complaint she overheard in McDonalds and asked others to weigh in with their stories.

The anonymous woman, from the UK, took to Mumsnet and explained that she was in the popular fast-food chain when she witnessed a customer complaining to the manager that they had dropped the food themselves on the way home.

She said the angry customer had pictures to ‘prove it’ and demanded a refund as she ‘furiously [waved] the receipt around’ – but was refused by the manager.

The woman penned: ‘I was in McDonald’s today and a woman came in to complain to the manager that her food had dropped on the floor yesterday and was demanding her money back, she said it happened on the way home.

‘[Am I being unreasonable] to think this is the most ridiculous complaint? I was amazed someone would actually come back the following day to complain about that, has anyone else heard of a more ridiculous complaint?’

The woman continued: ‘She was furious waving the receipt around but no she didn’t get her money back as the manager refused but I bet she gave them a laugh for the day.’

Other people flooded the comments section with similarly outrageous stories, with many having experienced ridiculous complaints while working in customer service.

‘I think my all time favourite was the man who wanted a refund on his digital camera because he couldn’t fit everyone he wanted into his photo, I had to gently suggest that he try taking a step back,’ wrote one.

Another person revealed they dealt with someone who didn’t want to pay for their TV licence because ‘they didn’t actually watch the telly – they just had it on as ‘company for their pet parrot’.

Elsewhere, a third revealed that an unreasonable customer threatened to issue a complaint after they were asked to leave the store when the fire alarm was going off.

They wrote: ‘I once had a customer threaten to complain to my manager because I’d asked him to leave the store.

‘The reason I wanted him to leave was because the fire alarm was going off and we were evacuating the shopping centre.

‘Many years later I’m still very baffled by the situation. Apparently asking him to vacate a potentially burning building is obviously thoroughly complaint worthy.’

However one user joked that their husband was once the unreasonable customer, admitting: ‘My husband can be a right moaner.

‘On one holiday he complained to a member of hotel staff that the “birds tweeted too loudly in the morning”.

‘I have no idea what he expected them to do about it. Me and our son took the p*** out of him the rest of the holiday.’

People revealed they received complains for closing fitting room curtains too fast or because the cheeseboard they had bought had melted when they put it next to a radiator
