Police probe after preserved human remains are discovered inside jar at an empty house in Liverpool

  • Officers located the jar and have now launched an investigation into the remains 

Preserved human remains have been discovered inside a jar at an empty home in Liverpool.

Police confirm they have launched an investigation into the macabre discovery, which they found at 12pm yesterday.  

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: ‘At around 12.10pm yesterday (Monday 9 August) we received a report of suspicious circumstances an unoccupied address on Wordsworth Street, Toxteth.

‘Officers attended and located a jar containing preserved human remains at the property. 

‘Police remain on Wordsworth Street today (Tuesday 10 August), while extensive enquiries are carried out to establish the provenance and age of the remains.’

A large police presence could be seen at the property in Toxteth last night.

Officers placed a cordon around one home on the road, which is located close to Toxteth Park Cemetery.  

One resident on the street said police were ‘all over the road’.

Officers could be seen within the cordon outside the front of the property and also in the garden.
