It’s a year later than expected, but the 2020 Summer Olympics are finally here.

And so far, it’s been filled with amazing performances and some shocking results.

On Wednesday morning, US swimmer Katie Ledecky earned her sixth career gold medal, winning the 1,500-meter freestyle in dominating fashion. It was her first gold of these Olympics, to go with the silver she won in the 400-meter freestyle.

Ledecky came into the Olympics as one of Team USA’s biggest stars. Another, gymnast Simone Biles, pulled out of the team competition Tuesday over what she said were mental-health concerns. Biles withdrew after she stumbled on the vault, the Americans’ first apparatus of the day, and she was replaced by Jordan Chiles. The United States went on to finish second behind gymnasts representing the Russian Olympic Committee.

Biles later broke down in tears as she explained her decision to reporters.

“I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being,” she said after the competition.

Here are the most compelling photos we’ve seen from these Olympics so far.
