Kate and Prince William watch women’s final at Wimbledon

Kate and Prince William have arrived to watch the women’s final at Wimbledon in the duchess’s first outing since her self isolation after coming into contact with an infected person.

The Duchess of Cambridge was alerted to a contact with a Covid-infected person last Friday afternoon – after spending most of the day at Wimbledon with VIPs including Tim Henman and Joe Wicks.

But today, Kate cut a stylish figure in emerald green as she walked to her seat to watch Australian number one seed Ashleigh Barty take on Czech eighth seed Karolina Pliskova. It is both women’s first time in the Wimbledon final. 

The Cambridges were joined in the Royal Box by the Duke of Kent – who present his last trophy tomorrow before stepping down as president of the All England Club after 52 years of service. 

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden was also seated near to the royal couple, as was London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Kate will go to the men’s final on her own on Sunday, with Prince William expected to watch England take on Italy in the Euros 2020 final in Wembley.

However, there is confusion over Kate being out of quarantine already, despite only staring self-isolating on July 2. 

Under current guidelines, the Duchess should have quarantined for 10 days after contact, which suggests that it took place last Wednesday, or June 30. 

Kensington Palace said her self-isolation period will have finished by Saturday but did not confirm when it officially ended. 

Kate is understood to have been alerted personally and was not ‘pinged’ by the NHS Test and Trace app, leaving the All England Club at 5pm on Friday 2.

This is significantly earlier than she has done in previous years, and the move forced her to miss her friend Andy Murray take on Canadian opponent Denis Shapovalov. 

On Friday Kate spotted looking serious as she was driven out of Wimbledon’s gates heading for Kensington Palace, where she was later holed up and unable to leave – even for food or medicine. 

She was not permitted to have visitors in her home, including family and friends, and was even told to avoid contact with anyone she lives with as much as possible. 

Her quarantine prevented the Duchess from attending the NHS’ 73rd birthday celebrations with William at St Paul’s Cathedral and Buckingham Palace yesterday.  

Sources stressed that she followed rules laid down at Wimbledon, which require visitors to wear a mask when moving through the grounds at SW19 but not while sitting in the stands.

The duchess is said to have had her second vaccination even though it is only just over five weeks since she released pictures of her getting her first at the Science Museum in London. 

Until Thursday, the guidelines stipulated an 11 or 12-week gap between jabs for under-40s not classed as vulnerable, although in some cases a shorter wait was allowed.

Her ten-day self-isolation period includes the day on which she was last in contact with the person who tested positive. If it was on Wednesday, she could, in theory, be free to return to official duties by the weekend. 

MailOnline understands she was alerted about the contact with a Covid-infected person on Friday afternoon – after spending most of the day at Wimbledon with VIPs including Tim Henman, who is not self-isolating. 

It means she must quarantine for ten days even if she tests negative, which she has, up to four times, in the past seven days including before and after her Wembley trip with William and George. 

It is not known if the Duchess of Cambridge was alerted after being ‘pinged’ via the NHS app, a phone call from test and trace or if she or her team was contacted personally – but William’s ability to continue his duties means the covid case is unlikely to be in their inner circle. 

When her isolation was revealed, Kensington Palace said in a statement: ‘Last week The Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. 

‘Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home’. 

Kensington Palace has not revealed where or when exactly the contact was only saying it was ‘last week’, when Kate’s only two public engagements were at the All England Club on Friday and with William and George at England’s historic win over Germany on Tuesday night.

Kate has spent time close to a host of VIPs including David Beckham and Ed Sheeran at Wembley and Tim Henman and Joe Wicks at Wimbledon. 

But it is not known if any of them tested positive for Covid, or whether the contact came via a friend, a member of staff or another parent on the school run last week.

The Duchess arrived at Wimbledon at around 11am on July 2 and was joined by Wimbledon chief executive Sally Bolton and former British tennis player Tim Henman on an outside court where they watched Andy Murray’s brother Jamie play.

She was also pictured laughing and smiling as she prepped strawberry desserts at the All England Club before heading to the Royal Box where she seen speaking to a beaming Joe Wicks, leaving around 5pm.  

Kate’s only other public engagement was on Tuesday when she went to Wembley Stadium with William and George to watch England beat Germany. 

A palace source said that the Duchess took lateral flow tests before both engagements and both were negative. In addition to this, the Duchess is tested twice weekly with lateral flow tests as part of the Royal Household testing regime, meaning she had four negative tests in that time. 

Also spotted at Wimbledon today were Kate’s sister Pippa, 37, and their parents Carole and Michael Middleton. 

Pippa cut a casual figure in a blue and white check dress as she joined her husband for a family day out at Wimbledon. 

She kept a low profile in a pair of sunglasses and £185 Ralph Lauren wrap dress as she took her seat next to James Matthews to watch the men’s semi-final match between Itay’s Matteo Berrettini and Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.  

Carole and Michael Middleton were also on hand to take in the action but were seated in the Royal Box with VIPs including the Queen’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent, his son Lord Frederick Windsor and his wife Sophie Winkleman. 

Business owner Carole, 66, looked chic in a £350 red sundress, cinched at the waist with a flattering fabric belt, while husband Michael, 72, appeared sharp in a navy suit and polka dot tie. The frock is from Australian label Scanlan Theodore, which has previously worn by her future daughter-in-law Alizee Thevenet.

With world number one Novak Djokovic and seventh seed Matteo Berrettini both playing today, it’s no wonder that plenty of famous faces could be seen in the Royal Box on day 11 of the Wimbledon Championships.

From British actor Andy Serkis and David Beckham to Prince Michael of Kent, some of the most known attendees were eagerly watching the action on Centre Court today.

Past faces in the exclusive box have included the Queen, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and Sir Richard Branson, among others.

Taking their seats this afternoon were a fine smattering of celebrities, including David Beckham, who put his best fashion foot forward in a white blazer, teamed with navy trousers and a pair of stylish sunglasses. He was joined by sporting greats Olympic winner Denise Lewis and Wimbledon champion Pat Cash.

The royalty in the box included Prince Michael of Kent, who was joined by his son and daughter-in-law, Lord Frederick Windsor and Sophie Winkleman.

1&2 Lord Frederick Windsor and Sophie Winkleman

Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, looked relaxed as he enjoyed the day of tennis alongside his actress wife Sophie Winkleman, who is best known for playing Big Suze in the sitcom Peep Show alongside David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

The couple were married in September 2009 at Hampton Court Palace, after meeting each other on a night out in Soho.

Lord Frederick and Sophie, who moved to LA for a number of years after their wedding for her work, welcomed their first child, daughter Maud Elizabeth Daphne Marina, seven, in August 2013, and daughter, Isabella Alexandra May, four, was born in January 2016.

Sophie is half-sister of TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, with whom she shares father Barry Winkleman, and was educated at the private City of London School for Girls before completing an English degree at the University of Cambridge.

3 Prince Michael of Kent

Prince Michael of Kent, 76, is the paternal cousin of the Queen. His father, Prince George, Duke of Kent, was the younger brother of King Edward VIII and the Queen’s father, King George VI.

In 1978, Prince Michael married divorcee Baroness Marie Christine von Reibnitz in Vienna. She was then given the title Princess Michael of Kent.

Although he is not a working royal and does not receive income from the Sovereign Grant, Prince Michael does still carry out regular engagements on behalf of Her Majesty and is often seen at big family events such as Trooping the Colour. 

The prince is a regular fixture at Wimbledon and is often spotted returning to the tennis competition each year, alongside his family, including his wife Princess Michael of Kent.

4&5 Carole and Michael Middleton

Carole and Michael Middleton are the parents of the Duchess of Cambridge, 39, Pippa Middleton, 37, and James Middleton, 34.

They regularly attend Wimbledon, and in previous years, as well as today, the couple have been seen in the most exclusive seating area, the Royal Box.

But a spot in the box is not guaranteed; even when your daughter is Kate Middleton, and Carole and daughter Pippa, who are avid tennis fans, were awkwardly just outside of the prestigious seating area famously reserved for royals, athletes and well-connected society folk in 2017.

6&7 Timothy Peake and his wife Rebecca 

Tim Peake and his wife Rebecca were among the esteemed guests in the Royal Box at Wimbledon today. 

The Army Air Corps officer, 49, was the first British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to visit the International Space Station, launching on a Soyuz rocket on 15 December 2015. 

He was joined by cremates Tim Kopra and Yuri Malenchenko and spent six months in space. In his first month, Tim conducted a spacewalk to repair the Station’s power supply.  

In 2017, Tim and his wife joined NASA Astronaut Drew Feustel and his wife Indira to watch The Championships in the Royal Box. The astronaut and wife Rebecca wed in April 2000. The couple have two children Oliver and Thomas.  

8 David Beckham

Football legend David Beckham was among the guests at Wimbledon today where he was seen chatting with other athletes in the Royal Box. 

The former England captain is a regular at the event and looked dapper in a cream suit and navy and light blue tie, teamed with a pair of stylish summer sunglasses. 

He appeared alone without his wife Victoria and their children, Brooklyn, 22, Romeo, 18, Cruz, 16, and Harper, nine.

9 Denise Lewis

Denise Lewis, OBE, looked sensational in a sage midi dress that she teamed with brown wedges when appearing at Wimbledon today. 

The former track and field athlete, who won the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, carried a white blazer in hand in case the weather took a turn.

The British sports presenter also won World Championships silver medals in 1997 and 1999, and was twice Commonwealth Games champion and 1998 European Champion. 

10 Pat Cash

Australian tennis star Pat Cash won the Wimbledon men’s singles title in 1987, beating then world number-one Ivan Lendl in the final.

The 56-year-old who also made Australian Open finals in 1987 and 1988, famously climbed into the players’ box to hug his girlfriend and coach after winning Wimbledon.

He divorced Brazilian wife Emily Bendit in 2002, after 12 years of marriage. The pair has twin boys – Shannon and Jett Cash – who were born in 1994. Cash also had two children in a previous relationship with former Norwegian model Anne-Britt Kristiansen.

11 Sir David Suchet 

Actor David Suchet, 75, is most famous for playing Hercule Poirot in ITV’s long-running series of whodunnits featuring Agatha Christie’s Belgian sleuth, a role he championed for 25 years (1989-2013). 

David was approached to play Poirot in the late Eighties, by the trustees of Agatha Christie’s estate – her daughter Rosalind and son-in-law Anthony Hicks.

They had watched him as Sigmund Freud in a TV mini-series, as the blackmailing gardener Blott in a Tom Sharpe comedy, and in the Poirot movie Thirteen At Dinner – playing Inspector Japp, opposite Peter Ustinov’s Poirot.

Acclaimed actor David is an avid tennis fan and even played at Wimbledon in the junior tournament, where he got through to the second round as a teenager.

12 Sir Simon Russell Beale

Sir Simon Russell Beale studied English at Cambridge University and began his acting career with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Since then his extensive theatre roles have won him three Olivier awards and a Tony for Tom Stoppard’s Jumpers on Broadway in 2004.

His film works include The Deep Blue Sea and The Death of Stalin, for which he won a British Independent Film award for best supporting actor.

13 Liam Fox 

Liam Fox is the former Secretary of State for International Trade. A member of the Conservative Party, he has been the Member of Parliament for North Somerset since 2010.

The doctor was first elected in 1992, and worked as a GP in Nailsea, Somerset, before becoming a member of Parliament.

He is patron of a large number of local organisations and charities including Mencap, Children’s Hospice South West and Portishead lifeboat. 

14 Tim Davie 

Tim Davie is the BBC’s director-general, having taken on the role on 1 September 2020. He was formerly the chief executive officer of BBC Studios.

Having studied English at Selwyn College, Cambridge, Tim Davie first joined the BBC as Director of Marketing, Communications and Audiences in April 2005.

He was awarded a CBE in 2018, for services to international trade and was appointed Chairman of the Creative Industries Council. He is also Chairman of Comic Relief and a Trustee of the Tate and the Royal Television Society.
