Hundreds of drunk teenagers descended on the home in Nottingham and chaos soon erupted as police tried to prevent more revellers attending the party.

The force described groups of revellers sneaking into the party by climbing through gardens and during the fracas, an 18-year-old man was stabbed multiple times.

In what senior officers described as ‘appalling’ behaviour, police were pelted with bottles while trying to help the victim and one officer was bitten while their vehicles were damaged nearby.

The teenager was taken to hospital where he remains receiving treatment for serious injuries while three other officers suffered minor injuries during the chaos.

The stabbing is being investigated by Nottinghamshire Police as attempted murder.

Yesterday, the force put out a statement decrying the violence which unfolded on Saturday afternoon and into the evening.

Videos posted to Snapchat show crowds gathered in the housing development in the suburb of Basford, with a professional sound system installed in the street.

Loud rap music blares from the speakers as hundreds of people wave their hands in the air and dance.

Residents living in the street described chaotic scenes, with people so desperate to reach the party they scrambled over their fences, smashing anything in their path.

Access to the road was blocked to stop more people arriving, but some had even come from other counties to attend.

Further groups then gathered in nearby streets outside the police cordon, leading to a dispersal order having to be put in place to break up the crowd.

The victim who was stabbed is now in hospital being treated for serious injuries following the attack, which is being treated as attempted murder.

City Area Commander Superintendent, Mat Healey, said: ‘This was a brutal stabbing of a young man in the midst of a mob of people.

‘We know there are several witnesses who will have seen what happened and we urge them to come forward now so we can bring those to justice who are responsible. There is no justification for this appalling attack.

‘Those who attended yesterday’s gathering did so knowing they were breaking the law and we know people came from outside of Nottinghamshire, which makes it even worse.

‘This was irresponsible and that irresponsibility has led to the serious injuries that have been inflicted on the victim.

‘Covid-19 regulations prohibit large gatherings, as we are still in the grip of the pandemic.

‘And for our officers to then come under attack as they gave first aid to the victim is just appalling. This is not acceptable on any level by any right thinking member of society.

‘This was a dangerous situation for local people, and indeed for those that attended, but it was also extremely challenging and complex to police.’ ‘Managing the safety of residents and our officers is paramount in these dangerous situations.

‘I want to reassure residents we will have a continued police presence in the area for the time being and would urge anyone with any information or who may have witnessed anything to come forward.

‘We have moved swiftly to arrest a number of people as a result of the activities, and work will continue as we gather further evidence to bring perpetrators to justice both for the stabbing and the anti-social behaviour and any other crimes that may have been committed during the course of the events.’

Police made a number of arrests in connection to the incident.

Under current covid rules, gatherings of more than 30 people are banned.

Resident Kate Matthews said those living nearby had felt very unsafe.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘This party started at around 3:30 and was around 00:30 before everything was sorted and we could feel safe.

‘People were climbing over fences, they had no consideration for property. I would like to thank the police for trying to sort such a complex situation out.’

Lucie Kilbane added: ‘I will say the police were doing their best, it was just chaos and I had people in my garden, police chasing people in my garden.

‘My neighbours had lots of damage too. Just a total lack of respect on many levels.

‘The abuse the officers took and I watched, they remained calm and did not react. It was quite scary for me, let alone the rest of the road that are all elderly and disabled.’

And Janet Fewster added: ‘Using my garden to get into party and breaking stuff is not acceptable.’
