Residents in one of Britain’s richest villages which has become known for its supercars have hit out at ‘boy racers’ revving the engines of their Lamborghinis and Ferraris on its genteel streets.

Alderley Edge in Cheshire — dubbed the ‘Knightsbridge of the North’ — is home to some of the world’s most expensive supercars, which attract motor enthusiasts and photographers from across the country.

But people living in the village have had enough of the noise caused by the cars and swarms of people blocking pavements while they take pictures.

Police have regularly been called in to crack down on the drivers’ ‘exhibitionist behaviour’ and speeding, especially during organised car meets.

And plans are now being drawn up to make the village, home to Premier League footballers and TV personalities including Paddy McGuinness, a 20mph zone to deal with the cars.

Local councillor Craig Browne, who has been leading on the plans, said the supercars are ‘incredibly frustrating’ for residents.

He told The Times: ‘It’s not the vehicles themselves, it’s the manner in which they are being driven. That revving and noise from acceleration can be heard in all parts of the village.’

Proposals for the 20mph zone have been drawn up and are being consulted on.

Others have complained about being pictured and videoed without their consent by tourists coming to the village at the top of Cheshire’s ‘golden triangle’ to look at the cars.

Some blame the impact of social media and TV shows for encouraging the loutish driving.

Anthony Freely, 46, resident who works in finance, said: ‘There’s a TV programme that is not helping: The Real Housewives of Cheshire.

‘It was filmed here and people want to be associated with it.’

But not everyone hates the cars. Jordan Belsham, 23, who runs the @supercarsinmanchester_ Instagram page, says he loves the stream of expensive motors coming in and out of the town.

On one day a £1million silver Jaguar E-Type was spotted, as well as a £250,000 Ferrari Pista Spider and £200,000 Lamborghini Aventado.

Mr Belsham told the Manchester Evening News: ‘I love it. I love the fact you can come out here and don’t know what you’re going to get — you could end up seeing the best car in the world.

‘It’s like a modern day version of train spotting, but instead of standing and writing down numbers, we are out here taking photos.

‘Alderley Edge is known as the ‘Knightsbridge of the north’ because of the amount of cars here.

‘London is still better in terms of high value cars, but here it’s the lazy form of car spotting — because the cars literally come to you.’
