An anti-abortion activist, who describes himself as the ‘pro-life Spiderman’, has been arrested after being spotted climbing the 1,070-foot tall Salesforce Tower in San Francisco without a harness.
Witnesses first spotted Maison Deschamps, 22, around 9:21 a.m. on Tuesday before alerting police.
Officers placed DesChamps in custody once he climbed all 61 floors and reached the tower’s roof. He appeared to only be wearing a hoodie, as several office workers inside the tower recorded footage of the climber reaching their floors without any climbing gear.
DesChamps is an experienced rock climber, according to his website, which also reveals that he wanted to climb the tower to ‘put a doctor behind bars,’ as well as raise at least a million dollars for charities advocating for women who are pro-life.
‘I am a rock climber that has recently started climbing Skyscrapers to end abortion,’ his website – www.prolifespiderman.com – says.
The climb also comes less than a day after the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade, which legalized abortion in the U.S. since 1973.

The pro-life activist also told his followers that he was doing the climb to put Dr Cesare Santangelo ‘behind bars’ and to support anti-abortion groups
Earlier on Tuesday morning, streets in the surrounding area were shut by police, who also asked people to stay away from the building.
‘Officers have developed [probable] cause to arrest the subject but charges are still pending,’ the San Francisco Police Department said in a statement. ‘At minimum he will be arrested for trespassing.’
Throughout his journey to the top, DesChamps filmed himself on Instagram. At one point, he can be seen on his story (@maison.deschamps) saying: ‘Everything’s going good, I just wish I had more water’ before raising awareness for anti-abortion groups in another video.
He then reportedly completed the climb at 10:50 a.m.
Tom Metcalfe, of Oakland, witnessed most of the scale when he was walking down Mission Street at 9:35 a.m. on his way to work.
‘I noticed the police sealing off the area around Salesforce Tower,’ Metcalfe told The San Francisco Gate. ‘A couple of people were looking up and so I glanced up and I saw a man climbing up the tower. He was a third of the way up the tower and making quick progress. It looked like he knew what he was doing. He was clambering up the outside
Completed in 2018, the Salesforce Tower is the tallest building in San Francisco and the second tallest in California behind the 1,100 feet Wilshire Grand Center in Los Angeles. The building also serves as the headquarters to cloud-based software company, Salesforce.
There is also a prestigious, $4million permanent multi-million-dollar art installation by San Francisco artist Jim Campbell at the top of the tower.
The installation has more than 11,000 LED lights that displays low-resolution moving color imagery.
The Salesforce Tower has never been climbed up before, with DesChamps being the first person to climbs all of its 61 floors
