McMichael’s New Boston, Texas home, located about 150 miles northeast of Dallas, where his son’s remains were discovered earlier this week

The gruesome discovery occurred after a relative from out-of-state called local authorities to ask for a welfare check at the house regarding Jason, where they encountered his father.

The Texarkana Crime Scene Unit and New Boston Police investigators quickly managed to get a search warrant for McMichael’s home, where they found male human remains in the kitchen.

David McMichael was taken into custody without incident.

He was arrested and booked into the Bi-State Jail, where he remains in custody, according to records. It’s not immediately clear if he has a lawyer.

While the younger McMichael is said to have died in May 2018, the rest of his family was reportedly unaware he had passed.

One woman who said ‘rest in love cuz’ when posting on Facebook Wednesday about Jason – whom she said ‘lived to his 40s’ – said that welfare checks had been made ‘multiple times’ throughout the years, ‘the most recent being 2020 and it was reported they were both seen outside and that all is fine.’

The woman, Amber Nicole Hines, also wrote that Jason’s death was ‘more than likely’ from ‘natural causes due to a handicap condition he had that made him have to be cared for 24/7, so no needed speculation of him being murdered.’

‘Good lord I’m glad most my family has thick skin,’ Hines wrote. ‘Crazy how a tragedy can happen and people want to point fingers or try and blame innocent people for that occurrence when it was completely out of their control and they are as shocked by the news as you are, if not more. Smh.’

Another woman, Connie Runnels Robinson, commented on the New Boston Police Department’s Facebook post, saying: ‘This is my family y’all are talking about…..YOU have NO idea the FULL story so please have some respect for our family….thank you.’

She also wrote that welfare checks had been performed and the family was ‘alwasy told they were OK,’ but that after her aunt died in 2016, David ‘David shut hisself [sic] off from EVERYONE.’

They were ‘also was told in 2020 that both men were seen outside the home (not true),’ she said.

‘Jason died of natural causes and David did NOT report his death….im actually the one that went out and talked to David after we had already tried to get NBPD to go out on wellness check and didnt! I got him to tell me where Jason was and I called the police…..its JUST horrible!!’
