The Sopranos star Paul Herman has died aged 76, passing away on his birthday.
Herman, who starred in host of gangster films including Goodfellas and The Irishman, died on March 29 and his cause of death has not yet been released.
The American actor was best known for playing the role of ‘Beansie’ Gaeta in the iconic crime drama television series, The Sopranos.
His passing was confirmed by fellow Sopranos star Michael Imperioli – who played Christopher Moltisanti in the HBO drama.
Sad news: Paul Herman has died at the age of 76, passing away on his birthday.
Imperioli said on Instagram: ‘Our friend and colleague Paul Herman has passed away. Paulie was just a great dude.
‘A first-class storyteller and raconteur and one hell of an actor. Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America, The Irishman, and of course The Sopranos are some highlights.
‘Paulie lived around the corner from me the last few years and I am glad we got to spend some time together before he left us.

Herman most recently starred as Whispers DiTullio in Martin Scorsese’s crime epic The Irishman (2019).
He also played Randy in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook (2012).
Herman appeared in more than a dozen De Niro movies including Falling in Love, Once Upon a Time in America, Little Fockers, and American Hustle.
His other movie appearances include At Close Range, We Own The Night, Heat, Crazy Heart, Quick Change, Sleepers, Cop Land and The Fan.

One of Herman’s most memorable performances was as Dealer in Goodfellas.
His co-star Lorraine Bracco, who played Karen Hill in Goodfellas, said: ‘The one and only. A loving soul with a great sense of humor, Paulie Herman. REST IN PEACE.’
Meanwhile, Debi Mazar, who kicked off her career with a supporting role in Goodfellas, described the ‘long history’ she had with the actor.
Frances Fisher said: ‘Paulie Herman – Beloved by All. From the old NYC days at Cafe Central & Columbus to the West Coast nights at Ago, Paulie always had a smile and a table.
‘Decades of memories in every conceivable haunt and hamlet. An actor, a horseman, a man about town, a bit of a health nut, a bottom line trusted friend.’

American actor Kevin Corrigan commended Herman for his part of Randy in Silver Linings Playbook in the comments section of Imperioli’s post.
Fans also rushed to share their condolences, as one person wrote: ‘So sorry for your loss, such a great actor.’
Another person said: ‘Loved him as Beansie but also his three roles in New York Stories. So sad.’
A third penned: ‘Nooo not Beansie. RIP.’
One person shared an ancedote from meeting Herman, and said: ‘Wow! I got to talk with him at the Hacksaw Ridge premiere years ago at the Academy.
‘I can’t believe it, he had such a vibrant personality that appeared immortal. A great character in HEAT too.’
Some referenced Beansie’s famed line ‘I’ll show you helicopters’ in their comments, with one writing: ‘OMG! Great great talent… wanna see helicopters?

Co-stars: Herman starred with DeNior in both Goodfellas and The Irishman
Alongside his stellar acting career, Herman ran the Columbus Cafe alongside his brother Charlei in the nineties, which was located oppostite Lincoln Center Plaza in New York.
The cafe was frequented by actors, ballet dancers, gangsters, and FBI and DEA agents.
Herman also had a small ownership stake in the cafe along with other actors including Mikhail Baryshnikov.
