The Academy Awards red carpet kicked off early on Sunday afternoon at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood with hosts Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes and Regina King.

It looked as if the stars were making up for lost time by dressing in their very most glamorous styles as last year the ceremony was severely pared down due to the COVID-19 pandemic which relocated the show to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

The women wore spectacularly elegant gowns as they dripped in diamonds while the men kicked up their suit game by straying from the standard black tuxedo.

Vanessa Hudgens, Laverne Cox, Jamie Lee Curtis and Sofia Carson all opted with black gowns for the splashiest night of the year.

Hudgens was fabulous in her lowcut black gown with sequins sewn in everywhere that had cut outs at the sides showing her ribs.

The Grease: Live star had her hair in an updo with a dramatic diamond and emerald necklace covering her décolletage.

The High School Musical vet added very high metallic heels.

Laverne Cox sure knew how to light up the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars on Sunday afternoon.

The Orange is The New Black star wore a dramatic strapless black gown with her hair up in a bun that made her look like Audrey Hepburn.

The day before Cox said she felt ‘like she [was] somebody’ when she was in the same nightclub as Leonardo DiCaprio.

The 49-year-old star worked as a waitress when she first moved to New York in a bid to kickstart her acting career but she loved the buzz of knowing she could go out somewhere and be in close proximity to some of the biggest names in showbiz at the time.

That glow: Laverne Cox sure knew how to light up the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars on Sunday

She said: ‘I remember during the early 2000s being in a club called Lot 61…’

‘I was a waitress at the time, an aspiring actress…this is 2000…around the year 1999 or 2000…and Leonardo DiCaprio was two feet away from me.

‘There were about 12 to 20 women who could be Victoria’s Secret models sort of, you know, surrounding [Leonardo Dicaprio, David Blaine, and Elijah Wood].

‘I saw this live. So this was kind of my life, and I remember in the late 90s and early 2000s being in proximity to Leonardo DiCaprio feeling so utterly and completely fabulous because I was two feet away from Leonardo DiCaprio in the same club.
