A man wanted in the stabbing of two employees at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art after they denied him admission over the weekend has been apprehended in Philadelphia, authorities told local media on Tuesday.
Officers found the suspect, Gary Cabana, 60, sleeping on a bench at a Greyhound bus terminal and arrested him without incident, 6ABC Action News reported.
‘We got information that this individual was also suicidal and was suffering from some mental health issues so we realized he was armed and very dangerous,’ Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told the ABC affiliate.
Police tracked the suspect down after he checked into a Best Western hotel in Philadelphia and set a fire in a fifth-floor room earlier in the night, the news station reported.
It is unclear what led the suspect to Philadelphia. Local police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Cabana was wanted by police on suspicion of stabbing two MoMA employees on Saturday after they refused to let him into the museum, where he previously had been barred for unruly behavior. Surveillance video footage showed the assailant fleeing the museum moments afterward on foot.
The two victims, both women, were rushed to a hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds to their upper bodies, and were expected to survive, New York police said.
New York police launched a hunt for the suspect, whom they said was familiar to MoMA staff as a museum regular. The suspect was also known to police from previous disorderly conduct incidents, including at least one at the museum in recent days, police said.
Cabana is said to have turned violent towards a former male boss and female union official was let go from his job as an usher at Manhattan’s Nederlander Theatre last year.
After being told his services were no longer required in late 2021, he is then alleged to have sent a series of threatening emails to a woman working at the union which represents ushers, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.
‘Payback is coming,’ he wrote to a union rep, police said. ‘F*** you c***,’ he is said to have added, according to the New York Post.
Cabana is then said to have wanted to take things up in person and went directly to the union office on West 45th Street to look for her on two occasions.
The woman is alleged to have told police that she feared for her safety having heard of an alleged assault against a co-worker.
A criminal harassment complaint was filed against Cabana as a result of the allegations.
Cabana is alleged to have punched his former manager in the face while outside the Nederlander Theater on West 41st Street.
On that occasion, he was attempting to get into the building without a ticket. After punching the manager with his fist, he was quickly marched back out onto the street.
The disturbing history of violence came as NYPD detectives, police officers and a heavily-armed SWAT team complete with a battering ram were seen entering the low-income apartment building usually inhabited by Cabana, near Times Square on Monday afternoon.
Cabana, who so far has managed to evade capture, was fired from his job as an usher and is alleged to have punched his boss outside of the Nederlander Theater before attempting to get insid without a ticket. He is alleged to have also written abusive emails
The SWAT team dressed in tactical gear arrived with battering rams and riot shields before storming inside the building.
Officers were posted outside the property located in Midtown Manhattan keeping a watch in case Cabana, who was on the run a the time, returned home.
Detectives were then seen walking in and out of the building several times throughout the afternoon carrying boxes and plastic crates full of evidence which were carefully placed into the trunk of a car.
It was hard to see exactly what was being carried away, however various envelopes of differing sizes appeared to be sitting inside the boxes as officers kept watch on the front steps for any sign of the suspect.

At one stage officers in tactical gear wearing bulletproof vests, body armor together with riot shields came back out of the address although there was no sign of Cabana, 60, at the property for the time they were present.
On Monday, the on-the-run stabber who attacked two employees at New York’s MoMA museum on Saturday now taunted cops on Instagram, joking that they’ll ‘still be doing paperwork’ while he takes a nap and relaxes despite being wanted for the brutal crime.
In a response to one person in the comments section of his Instagram page, he said: ‘Every person picked up in NYC has at least 30 priors. It’s a fricking revolving door of justice.’

Before being arrested, he tried to mislead investigators by claiming he was in Honduras, posting: ‘This is a perfect example of how f****d up our justice system is in the USA. Even if I turned myself in NYC has ‘no bail’ provisions so I would walk in the front door and a couple of hours later be back on the street. Be glad I am in Honduras. Lotsa bad hombres here. I’m taking machismo 101 class just to keep up.’
An NYPD a spokesman earlier said the force hadn’t yet verified whether or not it was Cabana posting the updates, or someone else.

Despite the man hunt, Cabana went on a social media rant Sunday.
He bashed MoMa over the way employees reportedly treated him and slammed the news coverage of the attack.
‘What is worse? Hackers or Journos. Right now, I LOVE MY HACKERS for taking my mind off this frame job by MoMA,’ Cabana wrote on Facebook.

‘They knew who I was all along but the morons wasted hours searching the museum when I was OBVIOUSLY LONG GONE with hundreds of witnesses WATCHING but no HEROES in the crowd that day,’ he responded to someone commenting on his photo.
‘NYC has turned in to a bunch of MIND-YO-BIDNESS P*SSIES,’ he added. ‘Not one person followed me as I run down 53td st (sic) with a bloody face from where the security hit me with a piece of lucite….’

MoMa was closed on Sunday as crime investigators worked at the scene.
According to police, Cabana’s membership to the museum was revoked on Friday for two unspecified incidents involving disorderly conduct. He is thought to have returned to the scene on Saturday to exact revenge.
Horrifying video footage from inside the museum shows him jumping on top of the reception desk, pulling out a knife, and stabbing the two employees before fleeing.
Police said one the employees was a 24-year-old woman being treated for stabs to the lower back and one stab to the back of her neck. The other was stabbed in the collar bone.
Cabana, who jumped the museum turnstile and fled the scene after the attack, was last seen wearing a dark jacket, blue face mask and sunglasses, sources told DailyMail.com.
One of the victims had said, ‘I’m going to get hazard pay,’ as she was taken into an ambulance, the New York Post reported. Police have yet to name the victims.
Cops lined up and down 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan after they responded to reports of the stabbings, and people were advised to avoid the area, which is under investigation.
