The parents of teenager Angel Lynn who was left with catastrophic injuries after trying to escape her ‘monster’ boyfriend during a violent kidnapping have slammed her attacker’s ‘unduly lenient’ jail sentence.

Miss Lynn, 19, was snatched off the street and bundled into a van by Chay Bowskill before falling from the vehicle at almost 60mph on a dual carriageway.

She suffered a fractured skull and brain injuries which have ‘wrecked her life’ – leaving her unable to communicate, feed herself, or explain how she fell from the van and rolled 160ft along the A6 near Loughborough in September 2020.

Bowskill, 20, and his friend Rocco Sansome, 20, both denied kidnapping Miss Lynn but were found guilty by a jury.

Attorney General Suella Braverman is reviewing the case after receiving complaints that Bowskill’s seven-and-a-half year sentence – which could see him released as early as June 2024 – is ‘unduly lenient’. The Government has 28 days to refer the case to the Court of Appeal, where his sentence could be extended considerably.

Miss Lynn’s devastated parents have blasted Bowskill’s sentence. Her mother Nikki, 47, told The Sun: ‘He’ll be out in less than three years. It makes me furious. What kind of message is that sending to monsters like him?

‘He can be back out trying to wreck other women’s lives while my daughter is trapped forever.’

Her father Patrick, 53, added: ‘I’ll never forgive him for what he has done. He has stolen everything from Angel and paid such a small price with that sentence.’

Bowskill was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison on Monday and will serve half his sentence behind bars – three years and nine months. Taking into account time already served on remand, he will become eligible for release in June 2024.

Jurors were shown CCTV of the moment Bowskill chased down the teenager when she walked off during an argument before he bundled her into a van.

Shocking CCTV footage (left and right) shows Miss Lynn being forced into a van by 20-year-old Bowskill, her boyfriend at the time

The footage shows Bowskill grabbing her from behind in a bear hug and carrying her back across the road in Mountsorrel.

The vehicle then left the village at speed and headed for the A6, where emergency services were called to a body in the carriageway soon afterwards.

Prosecutor Jeremy Janes told Leicester Crown Court that ‘controlling’ Bowskill had thrown Miss Lynn from the moving vehicle, which was being driven by Sansome.

Judge Timothy Spencer QC described Bowskill (pictured) as ‘vile’

Bowskill claimed that she jumped, or may have fallen through the vehicle’s unsecured rear door.

Miss Lynn was then airlifted to hospital but despite intensive medical intervention remains on a ward and requires round-the-clock care. The 19-year-old is unlikely to ever make a full recovery.

Judge Timothy Spencer QC described Bowskill as ‘vile’ and said if it was not for the kidnap Miss Lynn would not have suffered her ‘devastating injuries’.

He told the defendant that his treatment of his girlfriend was ‘degrading’ to the point she must have ‘felt worthless’.

Her parents, both cleaners from Loughborough, say they face a lifetime of huge costs to care for her at home.

The mother-of-six told The Sun: ‘For weeks the doctors would not believe Angel would survive. I’ll never forget the face of the medic who told me she was going to die.

‘I felt like my heart had been ripped from my chest. The world was spinning. I couldn’t eat for a week – I lived off water. Even now we don’t know how long Angel has and what quality of life we can give her.’

Angel’s personality changed and she became a ‘different person’ after starting a year-long relationship with Bowskill, Leicester Crown Court was told (Pictured: Angel)

Miss Lynn’s aunt, Jackie Chamberlain, said: ‘Angel picked the wrong boy like many girls do – and she paid for it. She will never be the same.

‘They (her kidnappers) will walk out after half their sentences are finished and get on with their lives. She’s never going to get married, have children and have a normal life.’

She revealed that Miss Lynn has had her last rites read to her three times and that she nearly died in hospital after catching Covid. She added that the teenager’s two younger sisters have been left traumatised by the ordeal.

Miss Lynn’s father said in a statement yesterday: ‘Angel was so full of life and had such a great future ahead of her. That future has sadly been taken away from her.

‘The catastrophic injuries Angel suffered will mean life will never be the same for her or our family. Every day is not only a huge struggle for Angel but also a huge struggle for our family and friends.

‘We are lucky in some ways as we are a close family, we have lots of lovely friends who help us and people that care in other ways. We try to remain strong but we know that every day will be difficult and a struggle for us all especially for Angel.

‘I know that Angel will never get married now and I will never get to walk my daughter down the aisle. Nikki and I will never be grandparents to Angel’s children. We don’t know what the future holds for our daughter but we try to put smiles on our faces each day but inside our hearts are bleeding out.

‘We’d like to thank all the officers involved in the investigation, our family liaison officers and our barrister, Mr Janes for their support throughout the last 16 months. They have all worked so hard and their dedication to Angel’s case has been remarkable.’

During the trial, Miss Lynn’s best friend told the court how her ‘outgoing and chirpy’ nature changed and she became ‘a different person’ after beginning her year-long relationship with Bowskill.

She told the jury: ‘As it went on you could tell things weren’t the same between them.’

Sentencing, Judge Spencer told Bowskill: ‘Your mother comes out of this with no credit – it was disgraceful conduct with her giving lying evidence in court about Angel and the police.

‘You should be ashamed of your vile and demeaning conduct towards your mother, seeking to get her to perjure herself – because it was you who brought her to this very low ebb.’

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Yarwood, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime team, said: ‘Angel is a young woman who had plans and aspirations in place and the rest of her life to look forward to.

‘Because of the extent of her injuries she now faces constant medical treatment and round the clock care.

‘Her family remain devastated by what has happened and I praise the strength and bravery they have shown and continue to demonstrate to this day.

‘No verdict or subsequent sentence can make up for the quality of life this young woman has lost.

‘I can only hope that in time her family can find some comfort knowing justice has been done.’
