A police officer will go on trial over allegations he had relationships with a number of women whose cases he was investigating.

Oliver Perry-Smith, 38, faces five charges relating to three women, including one he is said to have seen in a shop and then visited at home after ‘obtaining her details’.

On a different occasion he is accused of starting a sexual relationship with a woman he was investigating for harassment.

He is also alleged to have used the police computer system to look up information on another lady.

The misconduct charges span between September 2014 and November 2019.

Former PC Perry-Smith, a towering and muscular man with a wet-shaved head, stood in the dock wearing a blue suit, white shirt and red tie, before the judge East Berkshire Magistrates’ Court in Slough.

He did not enter a plea to three counts of misconduct in a public office and two counts of computer misuse.

Perry-Smith, who has quit his Thames Valley Police force since being accused was remanded on bail by a district judge.

Prosecutor Benjamin May said: ‘I suggest all matters are to be sent straight to Crown Court together.’

He added: ‘We have no information to suggest he has committed any offences since,’ referring to the passage of time since the alleged offences took place between 2015 to 2019.

Defending the ex-officer, Kiera Oluwunmi told District Judge Samuel Goozee that no witness statements had been compiled at this point in the case.

The police conduct body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, carried out an investigation into Perry-Smith, of Denman Drive, Newbury, Berks., in November 2019 and completed their investigation in June 2021.

The former police officer spoke only to confirm his name and address. Presiding over the case, Judge Goozee, adjourned the case for Perry-Smith to next appear in Reading Crown Court on February 15.

A spokesman for the IOPC said previously that the charges followed the IOPC investigation into Police Constable Perry-Smith, over alleged inappropriate relationships he formed with multiple women during the course of his duties.

‘Following a referral from TVP in November 2019 we began an investigation which was completed in June 2021. We referred a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service which has taken the decision to authorise a charge against the officer,’ said the spokesman.
