The man charged with the murder of teenager Bobbi-Anne McLeod is the lead guitarist in a popular local indie rock band.
Cody James Ackland, 24, who lives in central Plymouth with his mother, is accused of abducting the 18-year-old as she waited at a bus stop last Saturday evening.
Ackland – who walked into court today covered by a blanket – is the lead guitarist in local indie band Rakuda, which is made up of three other members, who are all close friends.
He was born in Germany, where his father, 53 is believed to have served in the British Army. His parents are separated but live close to each other in Plymouth.
Ackland’s four-piece band are named after Bar Rakuda, a popular venue in the centre of the city which they regularly frequent.

Ackland and his pals are well known on the city’s indie music scene, playing gigs at a number of bars and clubs around Plymouth and the West Country, building up a cult following.
He attended Estover Community College in Plymouth but in the past few years has focused on music in the hope of hitting the big time.
Social media pictures of Ackland show him downing pints between songs and appearing to revel in the image of a booze filled rocker.
An associate of Ackland’s told MailOnline: ‘He’s a good-looking lad and fancies himself as a bit of a lad.
‘I’s hard to believe that Cody is involved in something like this.’
Josh Greenless, lead singer of Rakuda told MailOnline: ‘The first I heard about this was when police started searching Cody’s house. He’s a big part of our band and it’s all a bit shocking.’

Rakuda announced it was disbanding today, writing on Facebook: ‘The remaining members of Rakuda; Josh, Ross, Josh and Mike are all extremely shocked and in complete disbelief by the tragic event that has unfolded over the last several days.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with Bobbi-Anne McLeod’s family and friends who must be devastated at their loss.
‘As a mark of respect, we have decided that we shall not be going forward as a band and will be disbanding with immediate effect. We will not be making any further comments at this time.’
The band have released a number of songs on Spotify with titles such as: ‘I want to enter your soul; Atomic Woman;’ and ‘Where do I go?’ Most have only been heard a few hundred times.
In 2000, they produced their debut single which was played on local BBC radio.
On their Spotify profile page, the band list their influences as Kasabian and Oasis.

Ms McLeod left her home in Leigham at about 6pm and was last seen waiting at a bus stop close to her house as she made her way into town.
Hundreds of people gathered by the spot she was last seen to hold a candlelit vigil in her memory.
A bank of flowers dotted with candles has been laid by local residents over the past few days.
Donna McLeod, the victim’s mother, was very distressed during the vigil but was able to thank the crowd for all the love and support her family has received over the last few days.
‘Thank you for doing everything to try and find her and bring our baby home,’ she said.
