The moment a 747 cargo plane landed at East Midlands Airport with a loud bang, sending flames flying, has been captured in a series of dramatic photos.

The aircraft botched a landing at the airport after arriving from the German city of Leipzig last night.

The Scottish Sun reports that nobody is believed to have been injured when the aircraft made its dramatic landing.

Photographs showed flames erupting from the back of one of the 747’s jet engines as it touched down.

Flashes of orange could be seen reflecting off of the plane’s side as it came to a halt on the runway.

The aircraft made a reportedly loud ‘bang’ as it made contact with the landing strip.

With the flames eventually under control, plumes of smoke could be seen rising from the back of the jet’s engine as it stood on the tarmac.

It is not yet known what caused the engine to explode, though one witness claims the engine itself ‘ingested something’ as it hit the ground.
