This is the moment two cyclists smashed into each other – after one looked away from their phone at the last moment.

Footage shows the pair heading for a collision on a narrow bike path, but neither manages to get out of the way in time.

The incident, which recently went viral, was recorded next to the Bega River in Timișoara, Romania.

Hands off: The filmer appears to capture the oncoming cyclist on a phone call as he rides towards him

In the video, a cyclist using a handlebar-mounted camera is seen riding at 17mph down the riverside path next to walkers.

Up ahead there is another slow-moving cyclist who appears to be on his phone.

But despite clearly being seen in the sunny conditions, the filmer continues to cycle down the path until they are just metres apart.

As the filmer tries to swerve and make move, the other cyclist puts his phone hand onto his handlebars for control but the pair are too late to avoid the head-on crash.

The camera shows the collision, with both men falling to the ground. It is believed neither of them were seriously injured in the crash.

The filmer has recently posted the images on YouTube, but received a mixed reaction over who was to blame for the incident.

Mihai commented: ‘He was on the phone and you on the other side, who do you think is more guilty?’

Radu Miron criticised the filmer, writing: ‘If you did not stubbornly keep to the right (of the path), the collision would not have occurred.’

Sebastian Vasile: ‘It’s not okay for the man to talk on the phone or for not being attentive, but these things happen and it’s your job to be preventive.’
