Princess Beatrice has given birth to a daughter, her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The Queen’s granddaughter, 33, welcomed a baby girl weighing 6lbs 2oz at 11.42pm on Saturday at an NHS hospital, the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, in London. It is believed she gave birth on a private wing, the Kensington Wing.
Buckingham Palace has refused to comment on whether the royal gave birth on a private or NHS ward.
The baby, whose name has not yet been revealed, is the second grandchild for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and the Queen’s 12th great-grandchild following the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan’s Markle’s second child Lilibet in the summer.
Beatrice’s baby girl is 11th in line to the throne, but although their mother is a princess, she will not have a royal title. Only grandchildren of the monarch through the male line are automatically entitled to the styling of HRH.
This means he or she will be plain Master or Miss Mapelli Mozzi. The Queen could bestow a title on her great-grandchild if desired, but it is unlikely to be asked for.
In a tweet from her official Twitter account, Beatrice said she was delighted’ to ‘share the news of the safe arrival’ of the couple’s daughter, adding: ‘Thank you to the midwife team and everyone at the hospital for their wonderful care.’
Beatrice and Edo, who married in 2020, also said they look forward introducing their daughter to her big brother Wolfie, whose mother is Edo’s ex Dara Huang.
Beatrice is understood to have already returned to her home of St James’ Palace with her new addition to the family.
The baby’s arrival has brought joy to the family amid the legal wranglings over the US civil sexual assault lawsuit Andrew is facing.
The duke, who stepped down from royal duties in 2019, is being sued by Virginia Giuffre, who accuses him of sexually abusing her when she was a minor under US law after she was trafficked by billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The duke denies the allegations.
Andrew’s legal team have contested whether he has been officially notified about Ms Giuffre’s claim for damages.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter on Saturday 18th September 2021, at 23.42, at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.
‘The baby weighs six pounds and two ounces. The new baby’s grandparents and great-grandparents have all been informed and are delighted with the news.
‘The family would like to thank all the staff at the hospital for their wonderful care.
‘Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well, and the couple are looking forward to introducing their daughter to her big brother Christopher Woolf.’

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s official Twitter account welcomed the birth of Beatrice and Edoardo’s baby daughter.
The tweet said: ‘Congratulations to Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on the happy news of the birth of their daughter.’
Bookies have revealed that Sarah is a likely contender for the name of Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo’s newborn baby daughter – in tribute to the Duchess of York.
Beatrice keeps a low profile and largely stays off social media.
It was reported yesterday Prince Andrew could be leaving Balmoral to see Beatrice after she was apparently admitted to a hospital on Friday.
Her father Andrew, who has been in hiding for some time on the 50,000-acre royal estate in Aberdeenshire, is now likely to make the 500-mile trip back to London to see Beatrice, according to The Sun.
He is currently holding crisis talks with his family and advisers over Virginia Roberts’s bombshell sex abuse lawsuit after a ‘disastrous’ week trying to fight the damning allegations – including the Duke of York’s flight to the Balmoral estate.
Royal insiders have claimed there may have been a ‘lack of communication and cohesion’ between Andrew’s UK legal team and newly appointed US lawyer about how to move forwards.
And there is apparently deep concern at the way the duke’s well-paid advisers on both sides of the Atlantic have been ‘outwitted and out-played’ at every turn in recent days by David Boies, the street-smart attorney employed by his accuser Virginia Roberts, now Giuffre.
Their attempts to avoid even having papers officially served have been both a legal and a public relations disaster, with Andrew appearing to play a game of ‘cat and mouse’ with Ms Giuffre’s legal team as he moves between Windsor and Balmoral to keep out of their way.
Lawyers for Ms Guiffre – a sex trafficking victim of paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein, a former friend of the senior royal – said they had delivered papers notifying him about the civil court sex case to his 30-room mansion at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.
They claimed that the documents were left with police guards at his Windsor home and emailed to his lawyers – and even released a photograph showing that papers notifying him about the case were posted to his home. Andrew disputes that they have been properly served.
Even Judge Lewis Kaplan, who is set to rule on Miss Roberts’s claims of rape, sexual assault and battery, which Andrew has always firmly denied, told his attorney, Andrew B. Brettler, last week: ‘Let’s cut out all the technicalities and get to the substance.’
Days ago, her mother Fergie fawned over her children, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, in a letter praising their ‘courage, strength and integrity’ and said she finds it ‘extraordinary’ that they’re both mothers.
In the letter, published in Good Housekeeping, Fergie, 61, said that she ‘smiles from her heart’ everyday knowing she’s a grandmother, and praised her two sons-in-law Edo and Jack.
‘Being 61 makes me a young grandma, and I love it,’ she wrote. ‘I smile from my heart every day, because that is how it feels to be a granny.’
Princess Beatrice and Edo were due to tie the knot at the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace, in London, on 29 May. But their ceremony was postponed due to Covid-19 and no new date was given by the palace at the time.
Instead the couple chose to have an intimate ceremony attended by just ‘close family.’
A statement released by the palace said: ‘The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant Government guidelines.’
The bride’s parents, Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York as well as her sister Princess Eugenie, 30, are thought to have been included.
On marriage Beatrice became a stepmother to Edo’s son Christopher, known as Wolfie, who is also thought to have attended.

Beatrice, who is ninth in line to the throne, borrowed one of the Queen’s dresses for her big day and tweeted: ‘It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Windsor Castle.’
Her Majesty wore the stunning vintage gown to a State dinner for the Italian Prime Minister in Rome in 1961 and to the premiere of Lawrence of Arabia at the Odeon in London’s Leicester Square in 1962.
Small adjustments were made to the gown by the monarch’s dresser Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin for Beatrice’s wedding day, including the addition of cap sleeves embroidered with vintage diamantés.
The Queen also loaned Beatrice the Queen Mary Fringe tiara she wore herself when she married Prince Philip in 1947.
Her baby girl is 11th in line to the throne, and although her mother is a princess she will be plain Miss Mozzi – and will also be a half-sibling to Edo’s son, Wolfie.
Beatrice’s baby is the second grandchild for Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and the Queen’s 12th great-grandchild following the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan’s Markle’s second child in the summer.
The York sister will become one of the few royal mothers to raise children in a blended family after welcoming her daughter this weekend.
Edo already has a five-year-old son Christopher Woolf, known as Wolfie, with ex-fiancé Dara Huang. American architect Dara remains on good terms with her ex and his new wife and Beatrice is a hands on stepmother.
Beatrice, who is not a full-time working royal, is vice president of partnerships and strategy at Afiniti, an artificial intelligence software firm.
She has a number of royal patronages including the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre.
Sources previously claimed ‘doting stepmother’ Princess Beatrice had put up ‘loads of pictures’ of Edo’s son in their home so he ‘feels like he has two families’.
Insiders told The Telegraph‘s Camilla Tominey that the royal has been embracing her new role, saying: ‘Beatrice ensured there are loads of pictures of him up in their house, so he feels like he has two families, and they do get on well. She has instigated a lot of that, rather than Dara.’
Edo is said to enjoy an amicable relationship with Dara and prides himself on still being an active part of his son’s life.
Sources have now revealed how Beatrice has thrown herself into the role of ‘doting stepmother’. They claimed she has become a regular at collecting Wolfie from nursery and accompanying him home on his scooter.
Friends of the royal said she talks about the youngster ‘all the time’ and has warmly embraced him into her life.
They added that he is ‘super little’ and ‘extremely cute’, adding that Beatrice will always make Wolfie’s happiness ‘her number one priority’ even when she and Edo decide to have children themselves.
The only other step-parent in the Queen’s immediate family is her son Prince Charles, who became stepfather to Camilla Parker Bowles’ son Tom and daughter Laura when they wed in 2005.
Previously speaking about her step-son, Beatrice said: ‘Homeschooling, that was definitely not my forte!
‘Not going to lie. Sadly, I can’t blame that on dyslexia.
‘But I’ve felt very lucky to have had the chance to work with my bonus son (Wolfie) over the course of the school closures. It was a huge learning curve for all of us.’
Edoardo is the son of former Olympic skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi and Nikki Shale.
He is a count himself, and had been a friend of the York children for some time before getting engaged to Beatrice.
Known as Edo to friends, he helped mend Beatrice’s broken heart following her split from Dave Clark in 2016 after 10 years together.
He was educated at the prestigious Radley school in Oxfordshire before studying for a Master’s in politics at Edinburgh.
Beatrice has long enjoyed a close relationship with her property developer husband’s father.
The count is keen for the Italian lineage to continue, it seems. He told MailOnline last year: ‘Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation. He is a count — his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.’
Edo stands to inherit his father’s glamorous palazzo, Villa Mapelli Mozzi, which is a stone’s throw from Milan in Northern Italy.
Nikki’s second husband, Edo’s step-father, was Christopher Shale, a senior Tory and a close friend of former prime minister David Cameron.
He collapsed and died in 2011 at Glasonbury Festival, after going missing for about 18 hours before he was found in a cubicle in the VIP area.
An inquest subsequently found he had been suffering from undiagnosed heart disease resulting from high blood pressure.
So devoted was Edo to his stepfather that he named his son Christopher after him.
Beatrice and the rest of her family attended the funeral, with Nikki eventually becoming engaged for the third time to sculptor David Williams-Ellis.
Beatrice also became an aunt earlier this year when her sister Eugenie gave birth to her first child, August with husband Jack Brooksbank on 9 February.
Beatrice is the only princess in the British royal family to marry someone with children and take on a stepchild.
