In the video, the officer is driven into a car park and opens the door before the vehicle stops.
He quickly unzips his trousers and urinates in the corner of the car park before getting back in.
Cleveland Police said: ‘We were made aware of the video in circulation and the matter is being dealt with by our Directorate of Standards and Ethics department.’
It added people who urinate in public are usually dealt with for this offence by way of words of advice, unless they become abusive then they could be arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
There is no specific law against urinating in public in the UK but people can be prosecuted for indecent exposure if the offence is considered offensive or morally unacceptable or outraging public decency — which is very rare.
Most offenders pay a penalty notice for disorder of between £50 and £80.
