James Peppiatt charged with Tony Eastlake’s murder in Islington

Man, 21, is charged with the murder of the ‘Flower Man of Islington’ Tony Eastlake, who was stabbed to death near his stall on Saturday evening

  • Tony Eastlake, 55, was allegedly stabbed to death on Essex Road on Saturday
  • The florist died a short distance from his flower stall according to police 
  • James Peppiatt, 21, has been charged in connection with the murder 

A 21-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Tony Eastlake, who was stabbed to death in Islington, north London on Saturday afternoon. 

The 55-year-old flower seller was attacked at 5.30pm on Essex Road and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Detectives investigating the murder arrested James Peppiatt of Elmore Street, N1, who was charged with Mr Eastlake’s murder earlier today.

Peppiatt was remanded in custody to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court tomorrow. 

The London Ambulance Service battled to save Mr Eastlake’s life, but he died at the scene. 

Friends and family have left floral tributes at the murder scene. Mr Eastlake was known in the community as the Flower Man of Islington.  

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are continuing to investigate the case.
