  • Residents watched driver repeatedly smash into cars on a street in Wales
  • One driver contacted police to report the ‘appalling’ driving fail in Crickhowell
  • Later told it was Richard Hammond filming for his upcoming Grand Tour show

Former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond was filmed repeatedly ramming his car into a parking spot during a staged incident for his upcoming show.
Baffled residents on a street in Crickhowell, Powys, Wales, were left scratching their heads when they witnessed the mysterious driver of the maroon Renault people-carrier try to manoeuvre his car in between two cars on the street on April 23.

One worried driver who contacted police to tweet a video of the ‘appalling’ parking and call for the driver to be arrested was later informed by the force that the motorist was in fact Hammond and his parking wreckage was part of his TV work.

The force responded by saying: ‘Hi Philip, thanks for getting in touch. We are aware of some filming happening in and around this area at the moment, but thanks for letting us know.’

In a clip, which was later shared online, the TV presenter repeatedly smashes into the cars next to him as he tries to execute a parallel park and fit his vehicle into the narrow bay.

As locals begin to gather on the street, Hammond’s people-carrier screeches loudly with its wheels spinning and smoking.

Just seconds later, the TV presenter jumps out of the car and walks away from the scene – leaving residents in a state of disbelief.

Hammond, 51, was filming in the quiet market town, which sits just 25 miles from his home in nearby Ross-on-Wye, for a segment of the fourth series of The Grand Tour for Amazon Prime Video.

One passer-by said: ‘It was a terrible piece of parking. But just the thing a lot of us would like to do when you can’t find a space big enough.

‘The three cars involved were all quite old so it wouldn’t have caused too much damage.’

The scenes come just a week after Hammond and his fellow Grand Tour crew mates Jeremy Clarkson and James May were spotted filming at Shires Retail Park in Leamington for their upcoming series.

Max Morgan, who spotted the trio last week, told CoventryLive : ‘I think they were filming for The Grand Tour.

‘Personally, I’m not sure why they chose that roundabout on a weekend at lunchtime – the worst place to be filming on a Saturday afternoon in Leamington.

‘Traffic was queuing back into the retail park – back along the road past the bowling alley and car garages.’
