THE ROLE OF CONSERVATOR:

Under California law a conservator is appointed by a judge to care for another adult who cannot care for themself or manage their own finances.

The role of a conservator of the person involves:

  • Arranging the conservatee’s care and protection
  • Decide where they live
  • Make arrangements for their meals, healthcare, clothing, personal care, housekeeping, transportation, shelter, recreation, and well-being.
  • Get court approval for decisions about the conservatee’s health care or living arrangements
  • Report to the court on their status

Tuesday’s remarks marked the first time the pop star has publicly commented on the Hulu documentary, which premiered February 5.

Insiders told Us that the circle around the Toxic artist, who is mom to teen sons Preston, 15, and Jayden, 14, had mixed feelings about the documentary.

‘The likes of her dad and others in the conservatorship are far from happy about it, obviously, because they feel it’s another example of them being painted as money-grabbing villains when all they’re doing – so they say – is trying to help Britney run her life and stay in a safe place,’ the source said.

‘But there are growing numbers of people who think it’s high time this extremely sad and confusing story was aired and it’s a positive step in the right direction.’

The documentary detailed the Oops!… I Did It Again singer’s portrayal in the media for more than two decades and the ongoing #FreeBritney movement amid her conservatorship battle with her father Jamie Spears.

In it, several former agents and friends suggested that Britney’s mom Lynne cared for her well-being while Jamie was more concerned about her earning ability.

The conservatorship was first put in place in 2008 after Britney was hospitalized following a widely publicized breakdown.

At around the same time, her parents brought a restraining order against Sam Lufti, who they said had inserted himself in Britney’s life to take advantage of her.

He has always denied their allegations.

Due to health reasons, Jamie was forced to temporarily hand over the reins in 2019 to Jodi Montgomery, who was already working as Britney’s care manager.

Britney has been fighting to ask a court to permanently replace her dad with Montgomery as the conservator over her person.

In August last year, Britney lost a bid to remove him.

The pop star’s fans have railed behind a #FreeBritney movement sharing conspiracy theories claiming Britney is being held against her will and supporting her in her fight for legal freedom from her father.

The Hulu documentary then brought renewed attention to Britney’s plight.

In the latest development in the ongoing legal saga, Spears’ lawyer filed a request last week asking for Jamie to be permanently removed as conservator.

Lawyer Samuel Ingham told a Los Angeles court hearing he will ask that Jodi Montgomery, who in 2019 was appointed temporary conservator of the singer’s personal affairs, be made permanent.

Ingham said he would present the petition at an April 27 hearing.

Jamie files paperwork asking for the conservatorship to be extended beyond California, to apply in Hawaii, Louisiana and Florida as well

The conservatorship that Britney was put under is ordinarily used in situations where older, perhaps senile people, can no longer look after their own affairs.

It gives control over to an appointed conservator for the best interest of the recipient but in most cases, the recipient is not healthy enough to make their own money, unlike Britney who makes millions.

Under the rules of the probate conservatorship, Jamie now has equal control over her estate to a third party and an attorney, Andrew Wallet.

Wallet derives  a salary of $426,000 a year from Britney’s estate.

He, Jamie and the third party who was brought on recently can make deals on her behalf and restrict her visitors.

March 2021: Spears’ lawyer Samuel Ingham tells a Los Angeles court hearing he will ask that Jodi Montgomery, who in 2019 was appointed temporary conservator of the singer’s personal affairs, be made permanent.

Ingham says he will present the petition at an April 27 hearing.
