Grammys 2021: Worst-dressed celebrities at the semi-virtual awards
Someone got up on the wrong side of the bed! Noah Cyrus leads the worst-dressed Grammys stars by wearing a white SHEET, while Doja Cat flashes a lot of flesh and Harry Styles dons brown velvet pants and a feather boa
- The annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday evening, with several performers and nominees attending in person, while other artists joined the ceremony virtually from home
- As always, the fashion on the red carpet – and the sartorial choices shared from home – featured several very over-the-top and bizarre ensembles
- Miley Cyrus’ sister Noah looked like she was wearing a voluminous bed sheet when she arrived on the red carpet, while Doja Cat, 25, appeared as though she had forgotten to zip up her gown
- Noah’s outfit inspired a slew of memes, with Twitter users comparing her to everything from toilet paper and bed sheets to popcorn and cotton balls
- Costa Rican singer Debi Nova was one of the earliest arrivals to land on the worst-dressed list, modeling a bizarre pink gown that had a long train, and a very short mini-dress style skirt at the front
- It was covered with garish pink and purple flowers, which made it look as though something had been spilled
- Violinist Mapy also went over the top with her ensemble, donning a very short semi-sheer dress that revealed her black underwear, and a pair of thigh-high white boots
This year’s Grammy Awards may have looked very different amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic – but that didn’t stop its celebrity guests, both in-person and at home, from showing off some truly disastrous dresses.
As always, the fashion on show at the musical event was over-the-top and incredibly colorful, but while some managed to find the perfect balance between chic and unique, many missed the mark completely.
Leading the list of worst-dressed stars at this year’s ceremony was Miley Cyrus’ sister Noah, who arrived on the red carpet wearing what looked like a white bed sheet that had been arranged in a puffy cape that rose up above her head and then fell to mid-thigh.
Comfort is key? The Grammys took place semi-virtually this year – but that didn’t stop stars from making serious fashion faux pas – including Noah Cyrus, who looked as though she was wearing a white bed sheet on the red carpet
Missed opportunity: The form-fitting dress underneath looked as though it could have been very flattering and elegant, had it not been for the voluminous swathes of material that surrounded it
Pranksters: Noah’s outfit was brutally mocked online, with many people joking that she looked as though she had rolled straight out of bed and was still wearing her sheets
Amused: Other people joked that the singer was dressed as a ‘crumpled up tissue’ and all of the ‘hoarded toilet paper’ that was bought up during 2020
Snack! Another Twitter user said Noah had arrived at the ceremony dressed ‘as a piece of popcorn’
Forget something? Doja Cat appeared to have forgotten to zip up her dress before hitting the red carpet
Woah: The 25-year-old was very difficult to miss in her garish green-themed, feather-embellished ensemble, which saw her flashing a great deal of flesh
The form-fitting dress underneath looked as though it could have been very flattering and elegant, had it not been for the voluminous swathes of material that surrounded it.
But if Noah’s dress featured far too much material, the opposite could be said for singer Doja Cat, who looked as though she had forgotten to zip up her garish green gown before hitting the red carpet.
The 25-year-old’s dress was unzipped straight down the front, all the way to her navel, leaving her at serious risk of a very unfortunate slip, which her team of stylists hopefully thought to prevent with plenty of body tape.
And if that aspect of the design wasn’t distracting enough, it then featured an extraordinarily colorful feathered skirt that fell to the floor, but allowed her green, cream, and black shoes to pick through – adding to the very vibrant, and vary tacky-looking, final effect.
Perhaps unaware of the date on the calendar, Phoebe Bridgers arrived at the socially-distanced event looking ready for a Halloween party, dressed in a long black gown that featured a life-size beaded skeleton design on the front of it.
Mix and match: The normally-dapper Harry Styles is known for pushing boundaries with his fashion, but his post-performance ensemble made him look decades older than he is, thanks to the velvet pants and granddad-style sweater
Fashion idol? One Twitter user joked that Harry had taken style inspiration from Ashley Tisdale’s red carpet look at the Princess Diaries 2 premiere in 2004, thanks to their matching feather boas
Spooky: Singer Phoebe Bridgers (left) wore what looked like a Halloween costume, while Julia Michaels’ dress (right) featured some very unfortunate white embellishments that could easily have been mistaken for old tissues
Interesting choice: Singing sisters Haim wore matching blue outfits that very closely resembled nurses’ hospital scrubs
Oh dear: Costa Rican singer Debi Nova, completely missed the mark in a garish and tacky pink dress with printed purple flowers all over it
She paired the look with black lipstick, which left the singer looking much more eerie than elegant.
Joining her in a rather awkward-looking black-and-white ensemble was Julia Michaels, who wore a strapless black number that featured a netted skirt and some very bizarre white fabric embellishments that somewhat resembled used tissues.
Singing sisters Haim – whose real names are Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim – wore matching blue ensembles from Prada that looked incredibly similar to nurses’ scrubs, with each modeling her own individual style made out of the same shimmering fabric.
Alana and Danielle both wore crumpled pants and sleeveless tunics, although Alana covered her arms with a long-sleeved hooded jacket. Este meanwhile wore a short tunic-style dress that featured a bizarre long-sleeved under garment that had holes in down each of her arms.
All three sisters completed their looks with pointed-toe slingbacks in the same blue as their outfits.
Making a rare appearance on the worst-dressed list was the usually-stylish Harry Styles who wowed in a leather ensemble while performing on the stage at the awards ceremony – before changing into a rather elderly-looking outfit for his appearance on the red carpet.
Baring it all: Violinist Mapy flashed a little bit too much in her semi-sheer dress, which left her black underwear on show
Pastel faux pas: Rapper Chika looked more like she was getting ready to chill on her couch than attend a glamorous awards show – and while she should be applauded for wearing a face covering, the mask’s ruffle was a slightly odd addition
Is it a bird, is it a plane? Keltie Knight’s shimmering frock would have been stunning had it not been for the over-the-top feather embellishments on the sleeves, which left her looking a little bit like Big Bird
Whoops: Country singer and nominee Mickey Guyton missed the mark in her sheer floral dress – which was matched with a poorly-fitting nude slip underneath
Let’s hear if for the the boys? DaBaby’s patterned suit (left) could have been dapper had it not been for all of his over-the-top accessories, while Jhay Cortez’s baggy shorts (right) made him look like he was wearing a poorly-fitting school uniform
The British singer chose clothing that looked as though it was made for someone decades older than him, pairing brown velvet pants with a plaid yellow jacket, and a pink V-neck sweater, as well as some yellow shoes.
While Harry’s unique fashion normally sparks new style trends, in this instance he fell short of his normal sartorial success.
Meanwhile, Costa Rican singer Debi Nova, who was one of the first to make an appearance on the red carpet – and kicked off the show with quite the sartorial statement.
The musician wore a very vibrant pink sleeveless dress that featured a short skirt at the front, and then a long train at the back, both of which were covered in less-than-elegant purple flowers. Her ensemble, which was completed by several choker necklaces, left her looking more like she was bound for prom than a premiere awards show.
Violinist Mapy was another guest who totally missed the mark with her choice of gown: a semi-sheer long-sleeved dress that awkwardly revealed her black underwear when exposed to the flashes from the photographers.
