An aspiring lawyer, 22, was hacked to death with at least three different knives, his mother has revealed, as a 17-year-old boy has been arrested for his murder.  

Sven Badzak, 22, was brutally attacked by a group of men on Willesden Lane in Kilburn, north London, just after 5.30pm on Saturday after going to Waitrose to buy his mother some orange juice.

His mother, Jasna, 49, revealed that an autopsy report showed her son had no scratches on his hands, suggesting the ‘gentle’ victim who ‘hated violence’ had not resisted his attackers. 

She said the pathology inquest also found at least three different knives were used, including one which was 7cm wide and shoved into his chest, The Sun reports.     

A 17-year-old boy was yesterday arrested over the murder of Sven who was chased by a gang and stabbed to death in an unprovoked attack – as his ex-Tory activist mother said her son ‘didn’t even try to fight’.  

Yesterday, police confirmed a suspect had been arrested on suspicion of murder, as they revealed more details about the attack after watching local CCTV. 

Sven and a friend were standing outside a bakery waiting for some bagels to be cooked when they were chased by a group of men before Sven fell on the floor and was stabbed to death. His friend was also stabbed but will survive his injuries.   

‘[Sven] wasn’t running away from anybody,’ Ms Badzak said. ‘They came to that conclusion yesterday after the pathology inquest was done. That found out that six people were there and at least three different knives were used.

‘Sven was standing in front of the bakery to have his bagels made. They found a 7cm-wide stab wound going all the way through him, and an additional three wounds on his lower back and backside, and not a single scratch on his hands.

‘My poor child didn’t even have his hands used to protect himself. He was just stopping to wait for his football friend. And that is why that younger kid is in the hospital and my son is dead.’

She saw her son for the last time yesterday at the Northwick Park Hospital mortuary from behind a screen. 

Ms Badzak had criticised the Met’s use of the term ‘altercation’ to decide the lead-up to Sven’s death, but the force has insisted it was a general term for an argument between two parties.

‘It doesn’t apportion blame to anyone and certainly doesn’t suggest provocation of any sort,’ a spokesman said.

Yesterday, Ms Badzak also claimed that a police car had driven down the road and saw the large group of men who allegedly attacked Sven, who was privately educated at Wetherby School, which Prince Harry and Prince William also attended.

‘The police had the opportunity to prevent it because eight criminals were standing across the road from Sven – a police car came by leisurely and did nothing,’ she said.

‘A witness was doing his shopping just before the event and saw these eight menacing guys and the police vehicle. That shocked him. Immediately after he saw the men he crossed the road.

‘They had gathered in an intimidating manner, and as other journalists have pointed out that even if they were the nicest of people why were they allowed to gather in a group of eight during the lockdown.

‘Why would they just slowly go buy them when they saw that other people were going onto the other side of the pavement to avoid them?’

A Met spokesman said there were no other incidents around the time of the stabbing so they could not say if a patrol car had passed the scene.

Ms Badzak said her son was aware of London’s knife crime crisis and took steps to try to keep himself safe.

‘He was very careful about his surroundings,’ she said. ‘He’d never engage with a group of eight people carrying huge knives.

‘His death was completely unprovoked and I have witnesses saying Sven was standing in front of the bakery.

‘The Waitrose bag with orange juice in that he bought using my card was found at the same place where he died.’

Ms Badzak said Sven, who had a degree in sociology but wanted to become a lawyer, had met the Prime Minister and other well-known Conservative politicians when he was 10, through her campaigning work with the party.

Asked if she had received any contact from Mr Johnson, she said: ‘No, none whatsoever.

‘A person that he knew is dead. At least the courtesy should be to call the person he knows about the death of her son. Sven was still a young kid. I still don’t know the version of events after he was stabbed.’

Yesterday, Mr Johnson said ‘absolutely everything’ is being done to tackle violent crime and said his thoughts were with Ms Badzak and her family ‘in mourning the loss of her son’.

He told reporters: ‘I think that what’s happening on the streets of too many of our cities is very, very sad and I want to see kids protected from some of the gang crime, the knife crime, the culture of violence that they’re all too often sucked up in.’

He said he is concerned there could be a ‘rebounding’ in crime figures as the country emerges from lockdown, and said efforts are being made to ensure a ‘tough policing policy response’ and also to ‘make sure that kids, young people, have other things to do, they don’t get sucked into the nihilistic culture of these gangs’.

He said there has been ‘some success’ on that front, but added: ‘That’s no consolation, I know, to a grieving mother, but we are doing absolutely everything we can to fight those gangs.’

Mr Badzak was pronounced dead at the scene and his companion – named locally as ‘Bobby’ and believed to still be a teenager – was taken to hospital where he is in critical condition.

Speaking yesterday, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley, said: ‘A young man has lost his life in the most tragic circumstances and we are doing everything we can to find those responsible. We have been carrying out enquiries, and after reviewing CCTV from the area, we are confident that Sven and his friend were the victims of an unprovoked assault by a group of males.

‘As the group chased the pair, Sven and his friend became separated. Sven fell to the ground and was attacked by a number of the group. His friend was also attacked but managed to seek help in a nearby shop and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

‘Our thoughts are with both families of these victims and I want to assure them that we will support them throughout this investigation and that my team of highly experienced officers will be working tirelessly to locate and apprehend those responsible for this horrific attack.

‘I would also appeal to anyone who was in or around the Willesden Lane and Kilburn High Road area at the time and may have witnessed this incident involving the victims and suspects to get in contact. If you were a road user and have dash cam fitted in your vehicle then please check this as you may have captured a part of this which could help our investigation.’ 

No one has yet been arrested.

Sven was one of two people knifed to death on an appalling weekend of violence in London where at least 14 others were wounded in an ‘abhorrent’ spate of seven separate stabbings in 48 hours.

The Met Police insist the stabbings were not linked.
