Danae Mercer, who lives in Dubai and boast more than two million followers, posted a series of videos to Instagram showing her step-by-step guide to getting the perfect beach picture, and how influencers fake ‘looking relaxed’ in photos.

‘Remember, online isn’t real. And sitting comfortably is ok!’ she says.
In a caption, she writes: ‘Here’s how influencers take BEACH PHOTOS – But also, just another reason to not compare your lovely, sun-bathing, swimsuit-wearing self to stuff you see online.
‘Because my gosh so much of it is POSED. Popped. Angled and perfected. And real life beach days are a whole lot more fun than that.
‘Here’s what I did: In pose one, I popped my bum up by bending my knee against the ground.
‘I arched my back. Squeezed my core. Did a wedgie for long leg lines.
‘Stretched my arms out to look casual but also elongate the abs. Turned my face towards the sun so the light was soft.
‘Exhaled. Tried to look relaxed, even though it was really pretty uncomfy.
‘In pose two, I arched my back. Rested on my arm. Squeezed my core. Lifted the front leg so my bum wouldn’t be all smooshed.
‘Pointed my toes. Lifted an arm for longer lines. Exhaled. Tried to look relaxed, even though it was ALSO pretty uncomfy.
In another video, called ‘how influencers take relaxing pics’, Danae starts by lounging on a sunbed by a pool
Danae says she keeps her core tight, puts her arms up and arches her back in pictures. Next she bends her leg and breaths in
To start, she picks up a pillow and places it under her head, before chucking it away and arching her back
‘Now if you want to run away, find some sand and start to squeeze, arch and pop, there’s NO SHAME in that. POSING can be pretty fun. Honestly I LIKE how my posed photos turned out.
‘But MORE IMPORTANTLY, use this as a reminder not to COMPARE YOURSELF. Not to the endless stream of bikini models in magazines.
‘Not to the thousands of bikini influencers online. Not to anyone. Because online IS NOT real.
Despite posting glamourous shots from around the world, Danae often insists that social media isn’t real life. She is pictured here in Sri Lanka
Danae, who also works as a journalist, often shares side-by-side shots showing off her body with classic Instagram angles next to ‘real life’ ones
‘And beach days are designed to be fun. Relaxing. Enjoyable. No wedgies or super-squeezed-cores required.

Danae often shares side by side pictures of herself to show Instagram isn’t real life . She captioned this one: ‘ME / ALSO ME – Because POSING is fun but sitting COMFORTABLY is even better’ She is pictured left posing at a flattering angle and right sitting comfortably
Danae often shares inspiring candid shots to her Instagram page, such as this one where she looks into a mirror and shows off her stretch marks
Danae then points her toes and lifts her arms above her head and points her toes.
Writing in a caption accompanying the post, Danae said: ‘ So much work goes into influencers’ “relaxing’”snaps, like the type you see by a pool or a beach or on some gorgeous Bali cabana.
‘In these pics, there’s a lot of POSING. ARCHING. Popping. And breath holding. And there’s very little ACTUAL relaxing.
‘So. Hey. Don’t COMPARE yourself. Not when you’re sunbathing by a pool. Not when you’re unwinding at home. And certainly not when you’re trying to have a bit of chill time.
‘Because it’s easy to pose for a ‘I just woke up like this’ moment. And posing is FUN. Sometimes I love it.
‘But our real days are full of wobbly, wibbly living. And while not all of that makes it to Instagram, It sure is a lot more fun than some of the stuff that does.
